A man went to his lawyer and told him, "My neighbor owes me $500 and he wonβt pay up. What should I do?" "Do you have any proof he owes you the money?" asked the lawyer. "Nope," replied the man. "OK, then write him a letter asking him for the $5,000 he owed you," said the lawyer. "But it's only $500," replied the man. "Precisely. Thatβs what he will reply and then youβll have your proof!"
There was an elderly couple who in their old age noticed that they were getting a lot more forgetful, so they decided to go to the doctor. The doctor told them that they should start writing things down so they don't forget. They went home and the old lady told her husband to get her a bowl of ice cream. "You might want to write it down," she said. The husband said, "No, I can remember that you want a bowl of ice cream." She then told her husband she wanted a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream. "Write it down," she told him, and again he said, "No, no, I can remember: you want a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream." Then the old lady said she wants a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream and a cherry on top. "Write it down," she told her husband and again he said, "No, I got it. You want a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream and a cherry on top." So he goes to get the ice cream and spends an unusually long time in the kitchen, over 30 minutes. He comes out to his wife and hands her a plate of eggs and bacon. The old wife stares at the plate for a moment, then looks at her husband and asks, "Where's the toast?"
Hans Grapje was raised in a Catholic school in The Hague and, as a young man, aspired to become a priest, but was drafted into the Army during WWII and spent two years co-piloting B17s until his aircraft was shot down in 1943 and he lost his left arm. Captain Grapje spent the rest of the war as a chaplain, giving spiritual aid to soldiers, both Allied and enemy.
After the war, he became a priest, serving as a missionary in Africa, piloting his own plane (in spite of his handicap) to villages across the continent. In 1997, Father Grapje was serving in Zimbabwe when an explosion in a silver mine caused a cave-in. Archbishop Grapje went down into the mine to administer last rights to those too severely injured to move. Another shaft collapsed, and he was buried for three days, suffering multiple injuries, including the loss of his right eye. The high silver content in the mineβs air gave him purpura, a life-long condition characterized by purplish skin blotches.
Although Cardinal Grapje devoted his life to the service of God as a scholar, mentor, and holy man, church leaders agree: he will never ascend to the Papacy. No one wants a one-eyed, one-armed, flying purple Papal leader.

Arrived late afternoon to our room at the View Lodge in M.V. After settling in and unpacking. I opened the drapes and this was the view from our balcony.
Great! One pic is worth the whole trip.

Your eagle pics this week have been knocking it out of the park. Thanks for sharing your great work.
Beautiful!
Thanks for sharing. CdA is a beautiful place to be.
Thanks for the geography lesson. It took Google maps for me to find it. I have traveled the Idaho-to-Utah road hundreds of times, but don't remember Holbrook. I noticed that Plack Pine is on the other side of the freeway. That's where my dad was born 100 years ago, so I have heard plenty of stories about the area.

From a trip in April 2016. I have been making adjustments on my monitor settings trying to correct some issues with brightness and white balance. I knew there were a lot of trips where the images were looking too dark and dull when shared to public media, so decided to re-work the edits. Monument Valley was one of the posts that suffered most from those problems so I am sharing the new and improved (I hope) version for your consideration. Hope you enjoy.
Hang your hat on #3 and retire. It will be hard to do anything better than this.
