I forgot to clean the electrical connections between the Nikon battery grip and the camera body - good thing to do next time. Everyone thanks for mentioning grip problems!

I have a d7000 with 70738 shutter actuations on it that I mainly use for reportage work. Lately it has been acting weird with random hangups/lockups. The quick fix was to turn it off and on which sometimes cleared the jam. Then it took removing the battery from the Nikon battery grip and reinserting. This got to be a PIA when the hangups occurred after about 15 - 20 shots. The real fix was to switch and recharge both Nikon batteries, switch and reformat in camera both SD cards, clean the lens and camera body contacts with a Qtip and rubbing alcohol, and remove and re-install the lens (Sigma 17-50 f2.8 EX HSM) about 10 -12 times. All problems then went away, in fact shot an event last nigh with ~ 370 captures with nary a hiccup!! Life is good again! :) :)

If using Photoshop for stitching there is a check box for correcting lens vignetting that works pretty well. Also use manual exposures with lots of overlap when shooting.

Add some glove liners from REI and/or get some of the disposable hand and foot warmer packs from a hardware store or Cabelas. There is a big difference between 20F and 0F. Use the layering concept - more layers for colder weather plus it's easier to shed some layers when it warms up later in the day.

I second mwsilver's comment, they are great performers at considerably less cost than Nikon's best! I have both the 18-35mm f1.8 and the 30 mm f1.4 and they both are awesome.

I have mobility issues also and am looking to do what you did. Now have to use a monopod as a walking stick and camera support for Nikon D7100. How does the Sony perform at low light levels and high ISO (2000 and up)? Please keep us informed as to how the Sony works out.

Thanks,

TK

Are you moving the camera when adjusting focus? Was the wind blowing your subject around? One of the strong point of Zerene Stacker is the retouch feature which allows for correction of these issues, especially subject movement.

Does anyone know how to create a short time lapse video from a sequence of still digital captures?

Thanks in advance,

Many thanks Gene51 - it worked great. There was an update to the downloaded file after I brought it up in LR5.

Can someone give me a URL for the showfocuspoint plugin for Lightroom? I've been looking for something like this for a long time!

Thanks,

I believe Ansel Adams said image manipulation is OK as long as it is not (too!) noticeable in the final image. He routinely dodged and burned plus selenium intensified his negatives and used filters to enhance contrast in his images. I added the (too!).

I see a lot of "neon" landscapes from digital images that are over-sharpened with too much contrast and saturation.

I think the moral of the story is don't overdo post-processing just because you have to tools to do it!
