Very well done.

Why not share some details about the location, setup, PP, etc.

Also, what is the Tamarack trail?

How did you get such vivid colors?

How did you get the cat to look at you at just the right moment? Oh, I suppose you said 'cheeze'.

I sent this to my brother, who looked it up on Snopes. The whole thing is a farce. There is no NASA vacuum chamber, these guys were just pranking everyone, and we fell for it. But it sure looked cool.

He sent me a screenshot of the Snopes article without a link, so when he sends me the link I'll post it.

This is not the only one NASA has. I did some work on one at Goddard space Flight Center here in Maryland in the 1970's when I worked at GE. Not as big as the one in this video, but nonetheless, it was huge (for a vacuum chamber).

Should anyone be interested, the best tripod that I have ever used, I remain to own and remain to use.. I made it myself in my woodshop and it is made from timber that had once supported a barn that had been built in the mid 1800's. To make the tripod's legs, I had cut the timber to size, cross braced the tripod's legs in two places and used 1/2" threaded bolts using flat washers, lock washers, and wing nuts to affix them sturdily. The top plate of the tripod is made of wood from an osage orange tree, and I had mounted a really right stuff's BH-55 ball head atop.. When it comes to sturdiness and a lack of vibration, this homemade tripod puts today's best tripods ( yes, the very best tripods made today ) to shame and it is as sturdy as is a flat cut granite boulder !

In the field, I use an 8X CT414 carbon fiber tripod.

Take some photos of it and post them. I'd like to see it.

You didn't make the ball head? :)

I always carry an extra charged battery with me

Me too. A bit of insurance that pays big dividends on those rare (or not so rara) cases when you need it.

Nice stop-action photo. It's the first photo I've seen from the SX60. Thanks.

It's a wonderful museum.
I've been there several times and have lots of photos.
Thanks for the post. It brings back nice memories, especially when I visited with my dad shortly before his death.

Thanks for the info! I guess I didn't do enough research before asking the question! I've seen a lot of good press on the Tamron 150-600 - I'll go take a look at it. I'm concerned about how heavy it might be, but if it's better image quality, maybe I can just rent it for that trip.

By posting here you ARE doing your research.

I've always hand held a d3100 while on the water. However with the soon to be delivered 7D mk ii I intend to spend more time on the water. A tripod is not always possible and of course there is always a monopod. My question is do any of you have any other tips and suggestions to stabilize the camera? It's not a subject I've seen touched on other than a cruise ship trip. That is not the case here.

If you are a DIY person, you could consider the Turnigy PRO Steady-Hand Gimbal 3 Axis KIT:

https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__51496__Turnigy_PRO_Steady_Hand_Gimbal_3_Axis_KIT.html

This is designed for DSLR's used for making videos, so I suppose it would work well for still photography.

The kit does not include motors or controller. Assembly and tuning required.

Google for videos. Some of the videos are not quite so good because they do not demonstrate the ability of this device as well as other videos (you may want to look at numerous videos to see its true abilities).

I have not used one myself, but it is a spin-off from the quadcopter technology that uses gyro stabilizers, which is very good technology. I have a couple of quadcopters, and the stability is amazing.

They make a 2 axis system, but I would stick with the 3 axis.

I've got to ask. These tablets are used how and for what in photography? So much to learn.

Me too.
Thanks for asking.
What is the cost?
What else can you use them for?

Rather slick. Not crazy about batteries dying, but still a good idea if it works well. Some people do not need a long duration, just dart in from a cab or bus. Much less cumbersome, and doesnt block your view.

Jet planes use similar technology to keep rain off their windshields.

Wonder if this idea could be beefed up and used for a bullet proof vest? :)

I am having cataract surgery on the 29th and 13th. Left eye first and then dominant right eye second. I have been told that I will have to wear and eye patch for several weeks. I can't imagine not being able to make photographs for almost a month. What can any of you who have had this surgery share with me as to what I can expect?

David,
Thank you for posting this question. In January my doctor said I am developing a cataract. Thanks to all the positve responses, I feel confident that when the time comes all will go well.

Really, cover to cover? Then you believe that God correctly told Moses to kill moms and dads and brothers and all young girls that had slept with a man, then to let his soldiers rape the little virgin girls that remained? Numbers 17-18.

That one, I could never believe that my all loving God would permit. There is good and evil in the Bible, of course, as it was written by man.

Numbers 17-18 explains the duties of the Levites and the appointment of Aaron to the position of head Levite.

It has nothing to do with your post that states "God correctly told Moses to kill moms and dads and brothers and all young girls that had slept with a man, then to let his soldiers rape the little virgin girls that remained?"

Indeed, I believe all the verses, cover to cover.

ISO 500, f6.3, 1/200, handheld, manual, no flash.

Quite nice. This is the first SX60 photo I've seen.
Thank you for the post.
