Welcome, neighbor! I'm also new to the forum. Take a look around; it's got something for everyone.

PS, nice waterfall.

i have a 450d canon and i have had it for a few years so thinking it might be nice to upgrade to a newer model. i am an amateur and dont really have any intention to try to become a professional, i just enjoy taking pictures of almost anything really. thinking it might be nice to have a little more iso to play with ocassioanlly.is there any real reason for me to even consider a f/f/ camera i appreciate that it would mean changing my lenses, well iam thinking about an upgrade there as well as i only have fairly basic.....but good ones at the moment.

Bill, good question!

I never invested in the DX product line. (One of my favorite lenses is my 15mm f/3.5 Nikkor) When I dipped my toes into digital, it was with Nikon 950 and 995 P&S technology and Photoshop. My game plan was to acquire the best Full Frame glass possible and wait for the FX body to be developed and perfected. I kept on buying the best lenses I could find and soldiered on with film, scanning and Photoshop.

So far... so good. An FX body may be just around the corner for me. :)

In your case, your current inventory seems to fit your needs. That is a GREAT place to be. Unless FX equipment will give you capabilities that you desire, I see no need to change formats. In other words, I would ONLY spend money on items I NEED.

Remember, what you now have was merely a pipe dream before it was marketed. And, 20 or 30 years ago it was unimaginable. If it ain't broke, don't replace it...

Hey Bill, welcome to the hog. You are in good company. Most of us were in the same boat with you...Had to make a living so photography was put on the back burner. Stick to what you enjoy. If that is digital or film and darkroom, just have fun. Now that you are retired, it will make things a lot easier. Looking forward to seeing some more of your work.

Rich, thank you for the encouragement! Photography was always a reflection of events in my life... and recording them. Now, it is an art form unto itself and ready for exploration. I find myself "re-learning" even the mundane things; such as how to load and shoot a Hasselblad that I haven't handled in many years. Perhaps the biggest obstacle to actively shooting is just getting out of the house, with a camera!

I am going to replace my Canon 20D camera but was wandering if my lense have good glass or need replacing also. I know they are not USM and am hoping to get some but is my current Canon EFS 55-250 with image stabilizer and my EFS 18-55 a good quality or just some made to market at a cheap price? Thank You for your helpful comments.

No need to change lenses until your film / sensor reveals that they need be.

Thanks, Joe. I've been checking things out, prior to registering and posting. Seems like a nice site and good people. Also, I posted a couple of pics in my second post. They're of PNC Park, in your neighborhood.

Welcome to the Hog Bill from another Pittsburgher. Quite a few of us here in the Burgh and surrounding area though I haven't heard any shooting film. I moved to digital years ago and haven't looked back. Love the ability to know what I captured immediately. I do though have warm fuzzy memories of my days in the darkroom. ;)

Ah, yes, instant gratification; I knew it well. I have two Nikon P&S cameras, (950 & 995) languishing... somewhere. They were great vehicles for being introduced to the Digital Culture. That technology has matured to the point that a full-frame DSLR is on my bucket list.

In some ways, photography and music have traveled parallel routes. Analog was my first love. <sigh> When Digital developed, I embraced it. But I now find myself returning to both film and vinyl as "everyone with a computer is a DJ" and "every phone is a camera."

Progress? We'll see..........

I once had an F4. When it was stolen, the only thing I missed was my Noct. I replaced it with an F3hp and never looked back. I never liked the AF lenses.

If I ever buy a full-frame DSLR body... I'll continue to use the 15 different MF lenses that I have collected over the years.

I didn't see TheDarkroom.com listed where I've been getting most of my developing performed.

WOW! Great spreadsheet they put together and shared. It's an excellent start for my search to regain those warm fuzzy's of long ago. :) Thank you!

Took some pics @ a recent Pirates game. Film was Fujicolor Superia asa 1600, processed @ Walgreens. Camera was F3/T and lenses were 15mm f3.5 and 85mm f1.4, I believe.

See yinz guys, later.

I'm getting back into film photography after a 15-year absence. Many things have been responsible for this empty space, but I'm looking to get rolling again... as I am now retired.

The biggest problem seems to be a lack of good labs that are readily available. Perhaps I just need to go back to B/W and create my own darkroom, again?

If that is so, I look forward to once again becoming "one" with my cameras. It was always a warm, fuzzy feeling... knowing how what I saw in the viewfinder could/would look in a print. I've lost that while using P&S Digital cameras. Convenient they are... but relying on PhotoShop for finalizing the creative process is not as rewarding as a darkroom, for me.

See yinz guys, later.
