Again I don't know exactly what look you're going for but I'd say that grain will give you a better starting point and possibly more options for controlling its appearance.

Going for? Adding grain to a B&W image, not noise. The thread title is an issue here.
The question is how to apply it. I solved the size issue, a better sample might be useful. I did not find anything suitable.

I would say missed the water dripping from the fish...

AI still lack in adding details...

Noise is pixel-sized but grain can be larger. I also suspect that noise has to be fairly high contrast before it becomes noticeable but grain could be more moderate contrast-wise.

I am currently working on that and need the input from the folks in this section.

My experience...
► Grain depended on the emulsion speed (ISO) more than anything else.
► Grain was formed by clumps of silver. The higher the ISO, the larger the clumps.
► Grain was random in distribution and size.
► When enlarging a negative to create an image, the clumps were also enlarged and as sharp as the projected image.
► Grain was black, not gray.
► Grain visibility depended on the luminosity of the image projected. It was almost non-existent in the black, preeminent in the mid-range and nonexistent in the highlight.

Finding samples of film grain online is not as easy as it seems. I found numerous samples, but all were small. Resizing them is not an option.

Comments so far?

I can't tell what you've done, but I suspect that soft grain might be more pleasing to the eye than anything that is described as "noise". It would also keep the nostalgic film lovers happy.

What do you mean by 'soft grain'?

Film grain depended on the emulsion speed, the fastest the films the more grain (as larger clump of silver). When in the lab, the grain became larger depending on the enlargement size. It was also as sharp as the projected image.

Note the black area are masked out because 'real' noise was visible in the midrange, almost invisible in the black range and greatly if not completely absent in the highlights.

There was a thread about creating noise that did not look like 'digital noise'. I had an idea on how to do it, but I did not go far enough... I was on the right path, thought.

It took me a couple of hours to do it this morning, I think.

Posted are the before and after, please comment and let me know what you think. Do not hold your critics, I want/need them.

I am not quite satisfied with this, but I think I am on the right path.

Note this is the real size.

Using the tutorial I posted, I created the same effect in minutes...

The original image was small (center one)

Process (additional to the one offered)
Create a large canvas
Copy and paste new layer, transformed it into a smart object.
Moved it to the center of the canvas.
Followed the tutorial.

I did not follow the exact scale.

I looked up to find a tutorial and I did find a recent one...

This link shows a basic tutorial. It is rather simple to do, but might be time-consuming.

Thank you for posting this.

Petapixel announced, with other media outlets, the creation of the World’s First ‘Miss AI’ Competition. If that was not weird enough...

These AI-generated women will then be ranked by an expert panel of four judges that includes two of the world’s biggest AI-generated influencers, Emily Pellegrini and Aitana Lopez - Link is NSFW -.

As if that was not otherworldly enough, further down in the article...

So we can expect AI to compete against each other and... Make decisions as to what AI is the winner?????????

Simple:
JPG is processed in camera and depends on your settings.
raw, on the other hand, is only partially processed by the camera, but not to the extent of a JPG.

Depending on the raw viewer you use, it may not look at the embedded JPG included in your raw file. The raw file then looks... interesting.

Just remember a single thing: raw is potential for better results.
