Regarding my comments on the power of On1 Raw and its versatility I will differ to Mr. Morganti’s Intro and Quickstart video. He does a much better job of showing and telling than I could.

Oh, I agree. In the past I've found On1 cumbersome, but with this new piece of software I was impressed enough to jump ship.

I started with one of Photoshop's earliest versions of Elements, then on to Lightroom 2003, then into the subscription model. So On1 is a big jump for me. Another factor is there are plenty of online tutorials to help me along the way, when I have questions.

I'm not sure what is going on at Adobe, but it appears they have legal issues. I don't need their headaches, and I have always hated Adobe's hogging of system resources. I also didn't like the subscription model, and over the long haul Adobe would cost me thousands. So I looked at alternatives, and On1 Raw will work for me. I also believe that Adobe will raise the monthly rate, $9.99 was my max. I found it intriguing, that upon cancelling my subscription Adobe came right back and offered a new subscription for $20 a month.

Like I said, I don't know what's going on at Adobe, and I don't want their issues spilling over into my photography.

I deleted my Lightroom Catalogue, and removed PS and Lightroom from my machine, but before I did that I had Lightroom write to xmp files. but that being said, I really didn't care about preserving the Lightroom edits because I always edited in PS and saved as tif's. So edited photos were preserved that way.

So, yes I've totally moved to the On1 file system, which is similar but not identical to Lightroom. I've got 40 or 50,000 images, and in Lightroom I found it difficult to correct errors in the file system so I had too many subfolders. I was able to easily fix all of them on On1, and On1 simply read the file structure and all my images are easily found. On1 also has a catalogue feature which I have not explored yet.

The strength of On1 Raw over Lightrom is in the develop module. At this point I'm not sure if another Photo editor is even needed. On1 does layers and masking. Layers and masking is what I used PS for.

On1 is very robust.

On1 technology is pretty robust!

When I canceled my Adobe subscription they asked why, then said it would cost $20 a month to return to them. So I assume prices will increase.

On1 appears to be an excellent Lightroom replacement. It's more robust and uses similiar keyboard shortcuts. You can do layer work, and filters, and much much more in On1.

It's a good decision for me.

It feels like it runs faster than PS. I switched to On1 Raw as a replacement for Lightroom. I grew tired of the subscription and the threat of higher pricing. Affinity uses some of the PS keyboard shortcuts as does On1.

Affinity was around $50 and On1 around $70. On1 is has more tools for development than Lightroom. I will use Affinity more or less like I used PS.

I think it was a good choice.
