Recently a friend discussed why he found it necessary to retire. He noted that we need to retire in order to have time for doctor's appointments. Unfortunately, too true.

Oh, yeah . . .!! I got one today!!
Nothing important - - - just one of those 'follow-up' appointments to
put more money into their pocket and help those medical companies
pay for those TV commercials.

One of the weird things we found to be happening after retirement was,
'waiting for the weekend' to take small trips or do whatever.
A lot of those things turned out best to be done during the week when
most others were working or in school . . .

We moved here to SC about 12 years ago from FL. Down there, we
usually had a good flow of kids come by and all was a happy event.
We were surprised that where we live now, most in our neighborhood
keep their front-door lights off on Halloween - meaning, "Don't come
here for a handout." I can understand that if you're not home, but . . .

I personally felt pretty sad that we only had about 10 or 12 youngsters
come by in about a two hour period.

In years past, the youngest would come by - usually accompanied - just
as it was starting to get dark; so I took our large bowls of candy out and
sat on our porch at about 6:15pm. A Sheriff's car drove slowly into our
neighborhood, and then on his way out, he stopped by and asked where
all the trick-or-treaters were. I brought a smile when I told him that he
was the only one I'd seen so far, and I offered some candy which he
turned down.

I sat out there for at least 1 1/2 hrs and then disappointedly went
inside. We had the doorbell ringers come by in widespread intervals,
and none of them seemed like they were having much fun. We gave
them each a handful of candy, but even that didn't seem to 'brighten
their night' as they headed back out to the roadway where adults
waited for them.

I was just there 5 weeks ago.
Loved the place.

Wow!! I'm a good bit jealous . . .
But, I'm sure happy for you, and the memories you must have brought
home - with a lot of pictures, I'm sure, to back up those memories . . .

That is definitely the kind of place I'd like to visit some day,
but I doubt I will get up in that direction to see that one.
I personally like to see history being maintained by making
something like that a State Park where I hope they are actually
maintaining it, so it isn't simply crumbling to the ground.
Keep 'em comin' . . .

Agree with Jerry's comment above.

Your posting will be 'forwardizationated' to friends and family.
I really hope you don't mind . . .

Very beautiful pictures of an area of the country I have
still a yearning to visit 'some day'. But, age and my old
body are saying, "Dream on . . "; so keep 'em comin'!!

Very good shots -- the kind I personally prefer over using a gun to simply
hang those majestic antlers on your wall. I feel a photo does just as well.
And, I like how your 'lead in' tended to amplify your posting!

Nothing but Tiffany Problems! You folks need to get a life! Other people have real problems.

Is that like "Other people" who don't like correcting minor problems
that could in the long run turn into bigger problems!?

Many well-intentioned drivers around here have started the practice of stopping at red lights about 30' behind the car in front of them. That often effectively blocks people from entering a left-turn lane and can cause them to wait for an entire cycle of red/green lights before they can procede.

I think I know well what you are talking about in that "30' behind
the car in front of them" comment. When I complained about that
one day, a younger passenger in my vehicle said that they were
taught in driver's ed that that is the thing to do; ie, stop far enough
back so you can see the rear tires of the car in front of you touching
the road. My return comment was that that does make a bit of good
sense, but then you can slowly move forward and leave room for the
vehicles coming in behind you, and allow more vehicles to get through
the light.
