My two cents on this John Howard is that it is just one more low cost gizmo to fit an expensive camera and the result will be disappointing and will just end up as more junk to crud up your place because it won't be worth your time to repackage it and return it and get your money back!
Reason why it's back-ordered is possibly because it don't exist yet as a production item and was impressive advertising with all them Mega Pixels the D850 has .....which in reality is all overkill when it comes down to performance in the digitizing of slides and negatives in the practical world!
Personally I use an Epson Perfection V500 PHOTO flatbed scanner which I purchased some years ago which serves me as a daily general use scanner as needed too !
