Do you listen to yourself when you speak/type?

While I volunteer my time to a rape and sexual support group to help others dealing with the issues that will be life changing, I let them know that there are and forever will be changes to themselves (mentally and physically) and there are some issues they will overcome. There are things that are and forever will be beyond my control. I will never be the person I was before my attack, that person died.

I’m not sure you understand what a sexual assault really is, while it is sexual in nature it’s more about power over another person. The attacker commits the crime to feel powerful and superior, the end result is the rape but really it’s just and ends to a means that strips the victim of their dignity by any means necessary.

I have already answered your question regarding these terms, calling a group of people derogatory names should never happen, it doesn't matter if the word is the N word or the ones you listed above. A racist comment is a racist comment, pure and simple. I also understand that people in those groups use these words when describing themselves, I don’t understand it but I think it’s a way for them to take the power back and the sting out of the use.

Have you ever had someone use a word to de-humanize you? I'm not talking about name calling like "you stole my parking spot you bastard" but a name designed by it's very use to crush your soul, remove your spark, your will to fight, a word that shows someone’s power over you, to make you less than human? A word that when you hear it to this day, makes the hair on your neck stand up on end, makes your stomach drop, leaves you feeling sick to your core and a wave of fear rush over you? That is what the words listed above and some others are designed to do, to make one feel superior and oppress another. Chances are you haven’t, chances are nobody you know has, and I am thankful that you have never had to know how words can kill your desire fight and live. I can speak from experience on what the power of the spoken word can do to a person, while I have never had a racial slur thrown my way, I have had ones of a sexist nature used against me during an attack, to this day the words my attacker used to gain control and power haunt me.

Are you speaking to me? Just because I don't agree with using the word doe not mean I have not heard it nor.would I have a stroke if an African American used the word around me.

After 600+ years of buying and selling people (not only people from Africa, but also people India, China, native americans, well let's be honest pretty much any body not white) we lost the right to use any word that was used to dehumanize a group of people. I don't care how you think it's unfair that as a white person you don't get to say it, I don’t care how unfair you think it is that someone else gets to use it when you don’t. The privilege to use that word was lost the moment a group of white people used it as a tool of oppression.

Just because you are not welcome to use one word in the English language does not mean that you are being discriminated against, it’s not a double standard. It’s simply a standard in common human decency that we should all strive to want to meet.

funny I'm pretty open minded and pretty far from self righteous, I just understand that a large part of her business involves having people like her, if they don't it's an uphill battle, no matter your skill level. the same goes for my business, if I am not personable, clients can be turned off and go else where. Ms. Deen and her team know this better than I do, she is operating on a much larger scale, her PR firm should have taken control of the situation longer before 3 "I'm sorry" videos were posted on the internet. She said some things she never should have said, she allowed her brother to subject her employees to sexual harrassment, she herself used sexual slurs when talking about female employees, now she is paying the price for allowing things like this to continue.


When you run a business that needs public approval to be successful (her TV shows need public approval for networks to pick up) you need to walk a really thin line on keeping your personitality out front but not offending the public. Racist and sexual slurs should NEVER cross your lips and if employees (or your family members) are causing issues, you need to nip it in the bud quickly. Sadly someone on her Team missed teaching her this vaulable lesson.
