Do You Think Gays Can Be Made Straight?

I was listening to a CNN promo for one of their anchors.
He will be doing a segment on restoring gay to straight through therapy.
Do you think it is possible?
In a religious setting, a father and grandfather related his experience to the religious service group he and I belong to.
He was in a gay relationship with an older man for a number of years from early teen to mid or late 20's.
He turned his life and became straight.
Does that make change of orientation possible?
Was he inclined to be gay or was he groomed and brainwashed to become gay?
Does that only show that someone who has had his life hijacked could benefit from therapy?
I have no idea about your life experiences but I have met many gays.
I worked in LA's garment district and met those from the flaming and flamboyant to those that would have never been thought gay.
I even delivered often to Mr. Blackwell and have met Liberace.
My wife and I socialized with some gays on occasion.
In all my interactions, I have never seen one of them hit on or disrespect someone because of their sexuality.
Gays are everywhere and I think, statistically, the are a much greater percent of the population than is currently estimated.
I believe this is a discussion that should be rational and calm.
The one you are discussing could be your son or daughter... or even your mother or father.

I don't think anyone chooses to be gay or straight. It seems to me to be "automatic". Being a male, I have attracted to female since my teenage years and I do not have much control over that. Having been married many years, I keep my thoughts to myself but the "automatic attraction response" to a pretty female never stops.............
Of course, the religious zealots will have their panties in a bunch about that subject ! LMAO

I don't believe you change your sexual orientation. I know many gay people, and from talking to them they all knew they were gay from a young age. Many agonized about it and how would they tell their families, etc. If it were that easy to switch, why didn't they? It would have saved them a ton of grief.

I really was not too clear here.
When he spoke of this, he seemed to say that he was preyed upon and it took many years to deprogram himself and follow his true feelings.

Everyone is an individual. I'm heterosexual but having worked in theatre for 25+ years and in fashion before that I am proud of my gay friends as much as my straight ones. Don't forget there are also bisexual people who are attracted to either sex. I would rather have a friend who is gay than one who beats his wife, or one who forces himself on a woman. Only one thing really sickens me and that's the scum of either sex who prey on children or the physically or mentally disadvantaged. You are probably aware of the so-called celebrities here in Britain who are gradually being discovered and consequently being dealt with by law. Some of these offences go back 30 or 40 years but justice will prevail in most of these cases. Just because someone is gay doesn't mean they should burn in hell. Do I think gays can be made straight? No, same as straights can't be made gay.

This is a bit too funny. Ask yourselves "when did you become Gay or straight?" "When did you decide to become Gay or Straight?" Or "When did you become bisexual?"

This is a serious question. If we are just the end product of blind chance and evolution, and our sole purpose is to pass on our genes, then surely homosexuality is a dead end? How come evolution has not eradicated the (genes?) responsible.

The term "sexual preference"implies choice and many have chosen to become straight which also supports the fact that it is a choice for the most part.There may be some who have an inclination caused by some physical condition,but that is rare.
I know that up until i started to become interested in girls(puberty) there were no thoughts about sexuality whatsoever but todays media and especially Hollywood have been pushing the homosexual agenda increasingly since the seventies,which is no surprise seen Hollywood is dominated by gays or bisexuals,who are really just part time homosexuals anyway,which really influences young audiences.This gay friendly society is clearing the way for all kinds of deviant behavior to be considered normal.Someone once said that "if evolution is true there is no right or wrong,no good or evil,only blind pitiless indifference",which the kind of thinking that opens doors to just about any behavior imagineable and many have advocated the justification for rape, child molestation,murder and so on based on this type of thinking.

I don't think they can really be "cured". They may decide that they want to be straight,and do everything they can to live that life.But I think there will always be times that their natural attractions will haunt them. Similar I guess to the older people who I talk to about quitting smoking.Some had quit for 30 or more years,but nicotine is such a powerful drug that they say at times,they would still love to have a cigarette.They just have the will power to suppress the urge.

I have 5 cousins who are from my father's youngest brother. The 4th and 5th were both gay. 4th is a lady, 5th a man.
The lady cousin was 30 and was in a horrible car accident. She spent a year in rehab. Her girlfriend was with her at all times. When my cousin got well enough to talk and realized who the other lady was, she was horrified and refused to see the lady again. She has been straight ever since, and she would be 57 now.

Often people make a bigger deal about gay vs. straight than it needs to be. It's not like the world is under-populated and humans are on the brink of extinction any time soon.
