Brought to you in living color

That top photo is STUNNING!
I like the last one, too.... it's been decades since I've been to the Inner Harbor! Back then... there was no lighthouse that I remember!

Delightful!!!!

Thanks happy you like the work. BTW they were shot with my Canon SD1100 point and shoot. I was traveling light and did not want to carry my Canon 40D. Below are a couple more from Baltimore.

Every one of them is different, up to 100 years old.

Once again you set the bar so high!! I love these shots (of course I'm the one addicted to "Deadliest Catch", "Ice Road Truckers", "Flying Alaska", etc.

These shots are all wonderful but if I had to choose a favorite I'd have to pick the red and white one just because of the reflection and how it makes the picture "grab" a person.

My all time favorite place to sit, read and enjoy nature, An great place to expose a frame or two as well.

Hints, tips, suggestions greatly appreciated

WOW! Picture perfect to me! Postcard Perfect!! Love it! I'm sure someone will find it can be improved upon but me, I like nature no matter what color or shape it's in and it appears you captured it all including the peace of mind that comes from being in a place like this. Thanks for bringing me back to NH and New England for a minute or two. (Vermonter but lived in NH too.)

Having a blast since I started sharing and checking other photos while on this site. I continue to learn from everyone. I've shared my other photos with you, thought I'd share what's really Important in my life, my Family. These ain't perfect photos, but I think, so much nicer than the, Look at me and Smile, shots that I have taken in the past.

Absolutely priceless!! Love the various expressions you captured!

Normally I would say that it is a reflection off the lens from some light source. However, this one has texture that I have not seen before. I am no expert, but I could believe that it is other worldly.

This is very similar to "orbs" that I've seen in a couple of my friends pics that I took and we're sure it's her husband who had passed on as it was only in the pics I took of she and her children, not in other friends I had taken pictures of who were sitting in the same place within minutes of her pics. I believe.

Helpful. I'll have to practice a few things, particularly using the 50 percent gray overlay to lighten and darken areas selectively.

I applied a few of the techniques Jim discussed on the attached. If anyone thinks this is hijacking the thread, I'll be glad to remove it.

I love it!! Glad you shared it!

While it may have been polite to ask... the photographer had/has no legal obligation to do so in a public setting..

In fact, stopping the spontaneous activity to obtain "permission" results in a set-shot, and defeats the entire purpose of capturing reality or what caught the photographers eye in the first place..

Open a magazine....photos of people on the beach or in the streets happen thousands of times daily...

You've hit the nail squarely on the head, LarryD. Shooting is a perfectly legitimate activity. Publishing. . . well, that's a different colored horse. Today's society being litigious to the extreme, no publisher worth their salt will accept a photo — particularly that of a child — that doesn't come with a model release. It's way too risky. Even if a photographer self-publishes to his/her online portfolio, the same rule applies.

I agree that asking permission results in the subjects behaving differently for the camera than they would before they knew the camera was pointed at them. Forgiveness, I find, is the better strategy. And being prepared to explain to anyone who asks what you're doing with the photo.

As sad as it makes me that the spontaneous joy of childhood goes un-captured, I long ago gave up photographing children who could be identified in a photo unless the parents were familiar with me and my work. It's just too risky and more hassle than I want in my life.

What a shame that we've come to this in our society: As a single man of 60, I'm supposed to completely ignore the existence of children for fear of being labeled as some kind of deviant. Sad and sickening at the same time. I blame it all on the Boomers who believe the world should be totally safe and that there's nothing but evil in the world. The world can be a dangerous place but it's not as bad as they portray it. I would venture a guess that there's more danger within families than out in the world. Interpret that any way you want.

I find it humorous that you would say you blame it all on the boomers blah, blah. Guess you're not around many young 20 and 30 somethings with children that are afraid to let their children look sideways because of the "bad" people out there, which in my opinion is due to the negative, putrid, distorted news media and sensationalism we have today. As a Boomer (and proud of it) I do NOT represent your remark and I'm guessing that there are many Boomers right on this board that don't either.

My thanks to SusieB721! I was feeling kinda blue this morning, but after reading about all of you, I feel like I made a bunch of new friends! And I didn't even have to pick and choose to determine who I might have something in common with! That was already put in place for me! I've found myself chuckling, and smiling as I've been reading, and getting to know a little bit about all of you! All of you seem like a pretty good bunch of people! You made my day better anyway! Thanks!

Hi Brandy, glad you could join us. I'm a fairly new member here but I think this is one of the greatest forums I've participated in and that's ever since the internet came along. Great people and so very helpful and great humor. This thread is a fine example of the feeling of connecting with friends.
