I'm not one of Esther's contributors but I do the same thing with every wedding, christening, and whatever.... take lots of photos, delete the rubbish, put the rest on a stick and give it over to one of the significant individuals in the family to decide what they like, what they might like to see a bit differently and what they don't like and delete. Its their wedding, christening or whatever so I just take the photos and let them deal with the choices. By the way, I don't charge for these because I'm doing it for the fun and experience of it. When I'm hired to do it then that becomes a different matter.
I would agree that when it comes down to glass either you are happy with it or you aren't. I've been expanding my range of lenses through carefull shopping on e-bay and so far only one bad result (condition, not selection). I've also upgraded the camera body because the canon eos450 was good but wasn't standard image rate for video streaming.
I had a look at your flickr page... very nice stuff ...land added you as a contact because it's nice to see St John's again.I now live in the UK but do miss the Rock and the rest of it from time to time.
Anyone know of a decent insurance company that specializes in camera equipment in the uk?
The one thing I learned from having a few things professionally framed is that the matting width and colour are hugely influential on the appeal of the print. The edging frame is also influential but it really takes a level of harmony or contrast between the three elements to make an unforgettable result.
The first thing I did in such an instance was to take a photo of the individual who was attempting to stop me taking photos; actually I recorded it on my secod camera as a video and then requested the individual to repeat what they had said. For some reason, the person decided it was not in the best interest to proceed.
I went back to taking my photos. But I did keep the video, just in case.
Looks like what I was hunting for but distance might be an issue. Let me know if you still have it at end of the month.

It really depends on how much you charge for your time normally. I have one neighbour who fixes my car occasionally and he never charges me the going rate so any carpentry for him is at the same rate or if a very small job, gratis.
However my employer who is in the logistics field is always looking for me to bring my tools in to do work inside the warehouse. He expects me to do this at the same rate as I would be paid for driving a forklift. That's not going to happen.
So if he's a friend, you might be able to work out a swap. If he's a business, remember that your work is a tax write-off.
Thanks to all of the contributors and the original query...often wondered what lock focus and reframe meant but too many other questions in the way...Nice pix of the baby... granddaughter coming over from Munich in two weeks so will get to try the technique on her.
Cheers

Anyone can shoot from the lip... but what amazes me is that only Man can stuff both feet in his mouth and then walk away from it all.
Just picked up a 75-300mm Canon Lense off E-Bay for £80 in almost unused condition. Better than the 90-300mm in that fully collapsed you get more in the frame but the fully extended views are the same. I also use an add on multiplier 2X which gets even closer and doesn't add significant weight or length to the walk around unit.
too funny... and not only do I recognize myself in some but most of my friends...this gets the Slumlord's gold star for a giggle. Thanks

I have a 3tb Seagate GoFlex that I picked up at Costco for $120 which was about what I thought I would pay for 1tb. More memory than I need but couldn't resist the price.
as an addicted photographer, I have to discept....there is no such thing as too much memory. As you get older (like I did) memory ithe one thing we all wish we had more of. I have a seagate 1 Terrabyte and wish I'd gotten more.
