Great captures Jim. Love them all but especially the last one. Another fraction of a second would have been interesting.

Is it a child? Or is it a choice?

“Primum non nocere” i.e. non-malefiecence, which is derived from this maxim, is one of the principal precepts of bioethics which all medical students are taught in their academic training and is a fundamental principle of applied medicine throughout the world.

This pillar of bioethics a.k.a. the Hippocratic Oath includes a promise to abstain from doing harm i.e. “first do no harm”.

Within the original Hippocratic Oath (c. 400 bc) translation from Greek by Francis Adams (1849) one finds this passage… “I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in a like manner I will not give to a women a pessary to produce abortion…”.

The Hippocratic Oath as been and remains a beacon of ethical behavior transcending virtually every governmental and religious institution in western civilization and widely embraced.

Is it a child? Or is it a choice?

An ethical dilemma or ethical paradox is a decision-making problem between two possible moral imperatives, neither of which is unambiguously acceptable or preferable. The complexity arises out of the situational conflict in which obeying one would result in transgressing another.

To this end I might suggest having empathy (praying) for the innocent who have no voice…

I won't get involved in the moral, ethical, religious question you raised. Because I have very strong views that I am not willing to debate in an Open Forum with people I have never met.
Having said that I love both images Thomas. You're a much better photographer then I could ever hope to be but the second image is spoiled for me because I can see the reflection of your transparent umbrellas in the child's eyes.
sorry to be critical of someone much better at this craft than I am - it's just mu opinion.

Great shot Sam. Is it a Cavoodle? My Granddaughter has one and it is gorgeous. Also, can you tell us what the saying is on your shirt.

I went back to the new spot I found in the hope of getting some more Superb Fairy Wren shots. I did but not the one I want. I reckon it must be too early in the season as when they get in full breeding plumage, the blue spreads much further and gets much darker...I'll try again in a week or so..

Great shots Ron. Can't wait to see what they are like in a week or two.

Love the wattle around it also.
PS Thanks for the note the other day.

I recently became engaged so of course a girlfriend had to send me the cartoon. Toby the cat is my neighbors when he sees me, he comes for a treat but this time I was in a rush without a treat his look expresses his feelings. Lastly the winter slippers my fiancé gave me because my feet get cold.

Congratulations on your engagement Sam. I hope you have a happy and safe forever. People that do what you do are the best of our society.

Everyone blames the police service after the fact. and yes, maybe they did fail here to some extent. But how about blaming the people (senators) THAT ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PLACE. Prevention is always better than cure or in this case blaming. If the lunatics can't get guns they can't k**l people. It's not rocket science.

Absolutely correct. Wake up America. I've heard it said by gun lobbyists "Guns don't k**l people, people do" Yes, people with guns k**l people. I wonder how those Republican senators would feel if they were faced with someone pointing a gun at their child's head. How many more innocent children have to die before America has the balls to stand up to a the "Gun Lobby"?

It's a big month for me this May...It's 20 years since I retired and I also turn 75 years of age on the 20th. Also, my car, which was a retirement present to myself will turn 20.
Never thought I'd make it with my rotten spine but still kickin'...

congratulations on 20 years of retirement Ron. I retired on New Years Eve 1999. I thought the turn of the century was a great point in time.
Loved the shots of the retirement present you bought yourself. What a great idea - I should have done something the same. The car is in pristine condition and is a credit to you. Say hello to Lorraine for me.

DIGEST THIS:

We are constantly bombarded with the fact that we are living on a planet of finite and rapidly dwindling resources but the majority of motorists choose to buy and drive large (absurd) SUVs… which
1. Have a greater frontal area which equals greater aerodynamic drag, which of course equals greater energy consumption.
2. Have greater weight which means greater inertia which
means more greater energy consumption.
3. Require more materials to construct… which equals more
waste of other finite resources…
3a. as well as more energy consumed to manufacture the extra materials required for construction.
4. Have a higher centre of gravity so they are more likely
to be in a collision due to loss of control of the vehicle.
5. Are a greater danger to third parties because of item 4
in this list.
6. Are an even greater danger to third parties because the
shear size of SUVs obscure the view of traffic ahead
and to the sides of other road users.
7. Are an even greater danger Again! to third parties because of their size and weight increasing impact and damage to said third parties….

Yet the majority of motorists choose to buy and drive large SUVs.

STUPID is a gross understatement!

This especially goes for those SUV drivers that are most common…
alone in the SUV that’s not carrying anything more than could be carried on a motorcycle…. on their daily commute to work FFS!
