Thank you for the web site of BugGuide. I was going to upload a pic to see if anyone knew what it is. I saw this post and I have now sent it to them. Will report what they tell me. I hope they don't tell me it is a black and orange bug.

No, black and orange bug would be ridiculous. It is an orange and black bug.

No, I don't believe so. It's been one of my pet peeves for a long, long time. I've been an amateur ornithologist for a very long time and I cringe every time I see or hear seagull, plus why pronounce all seven letters when you really only need four. Also, I remember the first time I was corrected a very, very long time ago. I said seagull when I was a youngster in elementary school and the teacher corrected me and explained why and for some odd reason, it has stuck with me all these years.

By the way, your avatar, did you choose a female Robin on purpose or just get lucky?

Speaking of pet peeves. ............"need four. Also, I remember" Two spaces after a period!

Does a chef give away his secret recipe for success?

Seemingly idiotic answer but if you think about it, this is not about settings but about something that really cannot be shared, even if we tried: Flair. A chef knows what to add when and how. Even having the whole ingredients list will not help.

EXIF, camera/lens combinations are red herrings, nothing more.

Sometimes they do give out a recipe. There was a restaurant "Jimmy Westons" in NY that I went to several times to have the veal chop prepared the way they do. I provided a stamped self addressed envelope, a note begging for the recipe promising it was for my home use only and gave it to the manager of the restaurant as HE suggested. I was mailed a copy of the recipe and a thank you note from the chef. That was back in the mid 70s.

Bingo! 👍 When a poster includes the information it gives me ideas as to improving my own photography. That's how I learn and that's what I use the site for. A hearty kudos and thank you to those who do include that info in your postings!

I agree. It helps me also. Makes me think and wonder if I would do it that way or another. Sharing info helps many. If you don't want to share info and read others information, then why come to this website? Then why join a camera club? If you think your way is the best or only way to create your photo then you are staying inside the box. There are sometimes many ways to make a shot work. A recipe for an apple pie is basic, yet there are also a thousand variations posted in books. I am always am curious about the recipe YOU had for your photo.

Macro does not require apertures higher than F/22. The only time I ever used that aperture was during my first year learning about macro. You should post this question over in the Macro section and let some of the experts over there give you some good hands on advice https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-102-1.html When shooting single shots and not stacking I shoot around F/14. The trick is to get flat with your subject, which gets more in Focus. Here's one example at F/14 ISO200 SS 1/200th

Fantastic shot of the spider! I'm curious as to the distance you were from it and the lens you used. Hand held or tripod. Just curious. If that were my shot it would be framed and on my wall.

#1 is the most unique. Most of the entries will probably be Monarchs, but #1 is of a color seldom seen.

so, legally you may be on solid ground for taking pictures of kids (any kids). BUT in this day in age, only a fool would take any picture of a kid they do not know. Why? When the authorities and social workers arrive at your house from the parents call, it will not be about shooting pictures in public. It will be about looking at every computer and computer file you have to determine if you are a pedophile. You will be guilty no matter what you say. If you don't get prison time, or forced counseling, you will be labeled a "sex offender". Try living with that one. I don't mean to be a pessimist but, this is a totally different time. Good luck trying to defend your picture taking as an "art". The rules are different these days, for better or for worse.
