12mp's is plenty at this stage of the DSLR game. Go for the glass and you will never be sorry. 'L' glass will be EF glass (not EF-S) therefore will fit any Canon camera body you choose later, Crop sensor or FF. Personally, I doubt that I will ever go to FF so I have also added a non-L EF-S 17-55 f2.8 lens, strictly because it is great glass. Considering the crop factor, it shoots like a 24-70 L but also has IS and at half the bucks. Bottom line....Go for the Glass.

According to Mr. Ben Long the EF-S lenses are of the same quality as the L lenses from Canon

Hi,
Like so many others have said I’m new, but have been reading for some time. I’m looking for a solution. I think I read about someone else having the same problem. Shooting a Canon T3i. Have loved it. Problem it is not recognized by any of my 3 PC ( all Win 7) anymore. Using cable to USB slot. Tried 4 slots on one computer and all the slots on the others. Also tried to put in card directly into computer card readers, but that has stopped also. USB slots work just fine with all other things I put in them. Have tried to download to Elements 11 and EOS utility. Also does not show on My Computer at all. All was well 5 days ago. Removed all Canon software and reinstalled. I have updated fireware 1.0.1 from Canon. Can not update to 1.0.2 because Computer card reader are not reading the SD Cards now, tried 2 different cards. Unistalled all USB ports and rebooted several times. Turned off camera several times, and removed batteries and replaced. I do not know where to go. Canon does not seem to help. Open to suggestions. Also tried to find on UHH but didn’t have any luck.
Thank you for any suggestions,
Jeff

I fully agree. Everyone has the right to voice their opinion...that's why I find it amazingly hypocritical of those who are trying to "belittle" the first responder and get her to not comment.

Men I have never seen such a yappy Dog!!! Just keeps on barking

After going through this thread....I'm still not even close to clear on what the original question was...how can having white decorations cause overexposure? The first post is most definitely not clear on the issue at hand....and all the whining just obscured that further.

" Before going from cold to hot, wrap your camera and lens in a ziplock bag or trashbag. You can also use a more expensive dive bag just for this purpose. Once you’re in the warmer environment, let the camera acclimate for about twenty minutes before opening the bag. Any condensation will then build up on the bag instead of your camera." from The science of lens condensation

This is to short of a time period dwburns, it takes at least 4 hrs or longer before the inside of your camera is the same temparture that is sealed in a plastic bag

Lets see, he is advising to bring frozen lenses into a warm, moist atmosphere and take off both caps?
Under NO circumstances would I do this as that actually will promote condensation to form on ALL your cold surfaces. That cold air is INSIDE your lens as well, and that's the last place I want condensation to form.
Thanks, but that's one tip I will NOT be following, or passing on to anyone. I would rather have my lenses last a bit longer, especially the newer ones with circuitry and motors inside them.

I totally agree with MT whoever wrote that must be in lens repair business

For all you poeple that don't or think they know !
This is what Canon has to say
When using a tripod ,you can still shoot with the IS switch to <ON> with no problem. However,to save battery power, setting the IS switch to <OFF> is recommended
The Image Stabilizer is effective even when the camera is mounted on a monopod
So with other words if there is no camera movement the camera does not go looking for it, by setting of a movement like a lot of you people are saying

Do you have a link to where you read this?[/quote

Would up grading from the car you have now to a better one make you a better driver

Question answered

No it would not make him a better driver, however if he now decides that he is going to travel in the mountains with lots of snow and ice he would be better of with a 4 wheel drive then a 2 wheel drive
but then again you would not know because you have no mountains over there
So maybe you should ask him what he decides to do with it

I have been pondering upgrading for sometime now to the 5d MK III but I still am not convinced that I should or need to. I love my 5d MK II I just wish it had a better focusing system and that is why I looked at the MK III. But I don't know if I can justify the 1000 dollar price difference. Part of me is now wishing I hadn't sold my 7d but now I have to contemplate what decision I should make. Thinking I am just going to get a wide angle lens instead and call it a day! (or maybe a good printer....)

Any 5d MK II owners who have upgraded what are your thoughts and final decision reasons for upgrading other then it is a cool new camera body.

Gray Market = NO! Do not buy gray market equipment at any cost. Chances are, it will need repair at some point and Nikon absolutely will not repair them. There are some shops that will but it gets expensive.

I was looking at lenses and saw some that were labeled as grey market and import. B&H (assuming I was on their legit site) say that they sell imports/grey market items and that they honor them with a 1yr warranty as long as you send it back to them. When I checked Canon's website they only had a 1yr warranty as well. What are your opinions on grey market products, are they worth saving the $$$?

Really? So are you saying that if you buy a grey market 5D Mark III today and two years from now (out of warranty) it needs a new shutter that Canon USA will not replace the shutter and charge the customer the same as they would to repair a non grey market 5D Mark III? They won't work on it at all? Really? They turn down repair business?

Don't eat that it is horse manure. Lets say I im an imegrant and brought that camara with me and it broke down, some of you are saying I can not get it repaired here when I want to pay for the repairs. Where do these story's come from?

I just downloaded the manual. Each page is marked as a copy, and it shows in my Adobe Reader. The ib.berkeley site is also so marked. They do so because the manual is copy-righted; they don't mind people copying it, but they don't want it changed. Some people may sell unmarked copies online.

Nikon manuals are copyrighted, too, but Nikon let you download a clean pdf. They also let you easily find the shutter count of a DSLR. Someone at Canon is very controlling.
