this is a really nice image . everything works . the people watching , the bikes in the background, and the position
of the performer . it tells a story as good street photography should .
the youtube video is amazing .

I have not gotten into Street Photography... but I have recently begun to look at that area on a regular basis.

I have noticed that they all (or almost all) are presented in B & W. I am not passing judgement in any way what-so-ever. I am just curious about why it is done that way.

Should I get into "Street" stuff... I want to do it "right"... not that there is ever all right or all wrong here at the Hog.

Thanks

Barry

the original street photography was b&w - cartier brasson , atget , frank - and many contemporary street photographers have emulated that style .
a color image can have areas of colors that can be distracting , and take away from what you are trying to say in the photo . i think creating good
color images is very hard , and converting to b&w is a way to simplify . sometimes color is why i took the photo , other times monochrome makes
a better statement . it is a matter of choice . you can shoot in color and convert to monochrome , unless you have a leica monochrome camera .

i like the photo - the composition and the moodiness . i do wish americans would dress more interestingly .
but , i guess , this is reality .

A very interesting old sign, painted on the brick wall by hand back when people had the time and patience to do such things. Was also struck by the adjacent fluorescent sign (a little hard to read in daylight) looks like it says "Shops - Lan Mart" - do you know anything about what sort of shops are there? Am I reading it correctly? What is "Lan Mart"?

i believe the coca cola sign was repainted many years back . petaluma has some very nice old buildings , both commercial and residential .
some movies have been made here , such as "american graffiti ". i am not sure what the lan mart was originally , but it now is like a mini
mall with numerous shops and studios .

Nice ones, mort. The center one is best, imho. The figure is in action, and an action figure is more interesting than is a passive one. The scene and background are interesting. One comment: try cropping off the lady in plaid. I find my eye drifting over to her and then out of the picture.

The top photo is OK, with the female face complementing the man's face, and the light-colored building holding up its end of the photo. In this case I find myself wondering what it is behind his butt. Is it his leg bent up? His face is nicely silhouetted against the black background. I think it adds to the photo that he's looking out of the photo instead of across it--like he's waiting for someone who hasn't shown up.

Number three is an interesting shot of a man and his dog. It might be more interesting to see the entire wheelchair. Again, you have nicely offset his head with a dark background. All in all, a nice group of photos.
