Shot with Sony A700 and Sony 70-400mm G lens
Interesting bokeh... I wish I got a sharper shot of the bird. AF is flakey sometims... I spot aimed right on his eye. Sometimes it's hit or miss with AF.. any tips or tricks to get more hit/hit.. instead of hit/miss?
Thanks!
-Mick
I use a 300mm on my a580 a lot. The AF tends to hunt and is also kind of slow. What I do is get it close and then switch to manual focus. It takes a lot of practice and if you do it too long, your eye gets tired. Be careful.

Call Sony and they will advise you. If you have a warranty, you will be able to get it fixed free. I had that experience with one of my canon lenses.

I have seen a lot of you pictures shot with that G lens and I think they should be clearer than they are. I wonder if it needs calibration. The 400mm G is supposed to be one of the best lenses out there. I am saving up for one myself.

Hey... before I ship off the G lens for calibration, I'm going to switch bodies and try it on my A900.... Maybe the body is what's out... is that possible?
Thanks

It's kinda new... only a few months old. I guess it could've got knocked out in shipping? I agree with you... I should be getting much sharper shots with this. Especially with a shot like this where the bird is clearly the target. My Zeiss 24-70mm zoom is tack sharp most of the time...
Where do I get it calibrated? I've never heard of that... but it would make sense ... have you seen this or heard of a lens needing calibration before?
thanks!

White Breasted Nuthatch. Not a woodpecker

Thanks... you nailed both of them!
I get so much joy in watching and shooting these little guys... and every once in a while, I'm visited by a magestic female Red Tailed hawk that has at least a 5' wing span. If only she'd stay still and pose!
Thanks!

Could someone ID this cute little feller? He came around for about an hour posing for the camera. The only reason I thought woodpecker was his crazy pointy beak.
He was shot with a Sony A700 w/ Sony 70-400mm G Lens
Thanks!

Nice depth of field. What camera, settings, etc?

Sorry, I always put that info in... I don't know what happened here... brain cramp perhaps!
Sony A700 with Sony 70-400mm G lens at almost full reach, using S mode at 1/1000 and ISO pretty high...like 1600 as lower ISO was giving me underexposure... Still not too bad noise.

Nice picture of a female fox sparrow.Anyway it looks closest to a picture of a fox sparrow item #543 of my Audubon society field guide to north american birds(under perching birds) by ball &ferrand jr.Has nice pictures in it for bird identification.

Thanks! and after reading about the Fox Sparrow... Unlike other birds where the male is clearly more colorful and beautiful, the Fox Sparrow both male and female look very similar.. so my title may off by one gender!

First snow of the winter.. and very late. Can anyone identify this little hen? Kind of looks like a Chickadee or Sparrow. Anyone?
Luckily, I got some nice bokeh too!
Shot with Sony A700 and Sony 70-400mm at just about full reach..but back a little.. at about 30 yards away.
Thanks!

Lovely little Chickadee struck the motherlode when he found the suet in the middle of winter. Beautiful little bird.
Shot with Sony A700 and Sony 70-400 G zoomed almost all the way.
Showing some really smooth bokeh as well!
