I just love the photo of the tree. For some reason trees seem to "speak" to me. I have taken a number of tree shots, but none as good as yours.

All of the photos in this set are really nice. I especially like the first two. I'm thinking of venturing out to our local botanical gardens to see what might be in bloom. We've had temps in the 70s and now in the 40s.

My memory must be better than I thought. I got all of them right! And my grandkids think I have dementia.

Welcome to UHH. You captured Razzer's attitude well. Take your camera out and practice shooting. Try the same shot at different settings and see what happens.

As an ignorant Brit doesn't your constitution only give the right to bear arms if you are in a militia?

Yup. That's the only way a reasonable person can read the sentence, but no one said the Supreme Court of the United States was reasonable.

Or that they could read, for that matter.

I did a bit of research since my original question. In 2008 the Supreme Court said that a militia could only contain able-bodied males between certain ages (I didn't look up those ages). So, it seems to me that if you are female, not able-bodied or not in the age range then you can't be in a militia - and you 'have' to be in a militia to 'bear arms'. So women, children, old-uns and non-militia persons who own guns are breaking the law. Is this correct? Please note, I'm not trying to be either pro or anti guns here, just trying to find out what your law says on the matter.

Here is what the second amendment says: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

It doesn't "say" only if you are in the militia. It does say of "the people". Would it not be reasonable to see that the militia being armed is necessary to defend the country. The people (the citizens of the country) have the right to be armed also???

And don't you see that it is saying that the "well regulated militia" has the right to bear arms. Why would those words imply that every citizen has that right? But if they join a legal 'militia' (the army?) then sure.
So no, your reasoning is not reasonable

Does this mean that Thomas Jefferson is not reasonable in his thinking?? (In a nation governed by the people themselves, the possession of arms to defend their nation against usurpers within and without was deemed absolutely necessary. This right was protected by the 2nd Amendment.
"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that... it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."
--Thomas Jefferson to John Cartwright, 1824. )

This is our new kity. She wandered to our house 3 times before we finaly took her in. We live very close to a busy street and allowing her to remain at our house seemed the safest plan. No one has claimed her yet. She has become our Chihuahua's BFF.
