An incredible shot even if you did not add a dinosaur!
All of the suggestions are excellent. My goto lens for family is the Canon 18-135. The best suggestions other than lenses are for her to go online and obtain a class. My other suggestion is for her to keep using the camera. It would be a mistake to buy her an upgraded camera. She has to discover a need for it by exceeding the boundaries of her current camera. Also many young people use their cell phones now for family and friends photos. Just keep encouraging her. Thanks for your question.
Putting a person in your canyon shot gave it great perspective. Great shots which take us to places where we can not now travel.
Really enjoyed your photos. Seeing the female eat that crawfish was just extraordinary. Thank you for posting those photos.
I have just (since August) started using the Tamron 150-600 G-2. It is incredibly sharp, but it is heavy. If you decide on the Canon 100-400, also consider the 1.4x or 2x extender. Another reader responding to a similar question suggested renting before buying to decide which lens you prefer. Happy shopping!!

Thank you for this post. Due to Covid travel restrictions have not seen Bonaparte's Gulls this year. Your photos made me realize what I have missed. Best field mark for the Bonaparte's is the white on the leading edge of the wing.
Really appreciated this sequence. It creates a high standard to try to achieve. Perhaps we will meet at Conawingo.
I have used Hallmark's program for many years for cards, calendars, small signs, and sometimes stationary. It is easy to use and the cost was about $29 for the program and many extras.
Thank you! The viewer can almost taste the berry!
Your post made me feel less incompetent. I have tried to marry my smart phones to my scope for many years with horrible inconsistent success - everything from sharp photos, to lost parts, to clumsy handling. Regardless, I am still at it and intend to try again. My bad suggestion is to return to the set up and keep trying or perhaps try a more steady tripod. If you can actually marry the camera lens to the scope, you are 3/4 of the way home! Good luck and thank you for this post!
I purchased the Tamron 150 x 600 G2 in August for budgetary reasons. I read many reviews and viewed many You Tube videos. I thought I would be purchasing a second quality lens. NO WAY! from the first day shooting with it I was impressed with its clarity and ease of use. Took it to the Conwingo dam to shoot Eagles and was able to obtain some good action shots. In my opinion the lens was much better than the reviews. The photos that others have downloaded here speak to the quality of the lens.
In the end you may be better off renting it first and basing a decision on some use.
Thank you for sharing these photos. Think your Chickadee is a Chestnut-backed Chickadee.
Congratulations! Babies grow up way too fast and during the first two years they change almost daily. Hope you have a very healthy, happy, granddaughter.
I have been taking photos of my 5 grandchildren since they were born! My favorite lens for most shots for the Canon is its stock 18-135 zoom. The settings on the camera enable me to avoid flash most of the time. Of course, today was an exception to the use of that lens. I shot photos of my granddaughter at her horseback riding lesson using a Tamron 18-300 zoom. By this time she was so accustomed to having her picture taken she told me when in the lesson to take it and even gave me suggestions for the right settings. Good luck, have fun, and enjoy the baby.
Enjoyed your pairings. Thank you for sharing. Ducks are starting to return to Delaware Bay. Saw Pintail, Shoveler, Gadwall, Mallard, and Green-winged Teal at Bombay Hook yesterday.
