And be careful how you copy the stuff to the destination drive. Some drag-n-drops are "MOVE", you don't want to do that! A move does not keep the files in the original place.

Not at all if you are doing to a different drive. Windows consider it a copy. If you do it to the same drive it will be considered a move.

There are ways to configure this behavior in the register but the above is the original system default.

The latest version of Topaz Sharpener AI actually has a quad screen that shows the results for each of the choices PLUS Topaz AI Clear. It's pretty handy to see them all at once so you can choose.

Go for it ! But the AI version.

I have read using compressed air may push dust into the lens, don't know if this is a fact, I just use a rocket blower, lens wipes and lens cloth.

Also, compressed air has the bad habit of having moisture and may create condensation in the inner mechanics of the lens. Not recomended. The rocket blower is a good option, if it doesn't solve the issue try a lens cleaner tissue (I use Nikon's all the time) and if it is really stuck better take it to a repair specialist.

No debate. It's called photo processing. That's why we keep coming back here every day - to learn how to do it better.

Exactly... we've been doing it since someone invented the first photo editing software.... it is just getting easier and faster.

In the end is not about the tool but how you use and what you achieve with it.

As with painting, more and more, reality will be in the eye of the beholder... I don't understand all the fuzz since we've been doing this for a long time... collage and editing... it is just getting easier...

The problem is that reality is getting more relative by the minute...or second... The available power to manipulate reality is reaching a level that it will make almost impossible to separate what is real from what is not. Deep fake is a reality and when quantum computing finally arrives any border between real x fake will be erased. When it happens photography will be the same as painting... reality will be the vision of the photographer and not the scene itself. As with painting you will have the "realists" attached to what is true and existent but a lot of new denominations... in fact we are somehow doing it right now through collage and editing we are just making it easier to achieve the results.

I would go for photoscape x... it is simple and full of functionality. The paid version with more advanced features as layers is only 39.00 but the free one is free of advertising and has 100% of the basic functionality. It works fine, very few bugs that I can count of... recommended

Western Digitial Passport Ultra...go for the 4Tb which is the best value for the money. They are 2.5" factor, powered through the USB port (no bricks) and may be password encrypted what gives you some peace of mind if it is stolen or lost.

I use half a dozen personally and tens of them at work (for users notebook backups) and they are very reliable with less than 2% fail over 8 years of usage and beating. We are now in the process or replacing them by SSDs especially for users that travels a lot and abuse too much of the drives (users are always the IT headache...)

Good luck

I would suggest Photoscape X. The free version is quite capable and is stripped of only more technical stuff like layers. The full license is very affordable @ 39.95. After some years my wife decided to begin macro photography but she doesn't have a clue with software. It took her about a couple of days to use it almost fully and now, about three weeks later she asked me to buy the pro version since she is already feeling that she is ok for the advanced functions.
I use PS/LR/Luminar/Bridge but I'm beginning to use Photoscape X to sort and classify my pictures also. Easier and faster at least as the first filter.

Agree, Macrium Reflect is the one. Also excellent in cloning drives; I never bother with included software, just use Macrium when I replace an HDD or SDD.

Go for Macrium Reflect. The home version is free and the only thing you lose is the ramsonware protection (if you feel it is important you can buy their home version that is not that pricy). Most free antivirus are already offering some ramsonware protection.

With Macrium you can make images of your whole drives but you can recover individual directories or folders if needed. Having an image of your system disk will allow you to restore it promptly in case of a crash using their emergency boot drive (external drive, I use a cheap 8Gb pen drive) that is generated by the program itself. You an also image your data partition so you can recover your data fast. Just to avoid any doubt: if your system and data drive are the same (what is not a good idea...) you can recover it all together in just one restore.
Macrium is fast, far faster than any other image software I tested like Acronis for instance and it is very reliable (till date all images I needed recovered gracefully).
If you are a little more into computers you can define different definitions for different occasions... I myself defined a full image every Sunday with a differential image every week day (only copies what changed). If needed the software assembly Sunday's full image with the incremental ones and restore it all.
You have the options of full image, incremental image and differential images and you can schedule them as you wish.
Disclaimer: I'm not associated to Macrium, just promoting their software as I like to promote good software moreover when it is (recently) offered for free with minor limitations from their pro versions. Moreover that I'm promoting their free version.
The only major drawback from a backup software is that you can't use it for imaging just directories or files but rather image the whole disk but using a full image plus differential ones will mitigate a lot this issue.

This splash screen freezing and the plugin issues are pretty common to Luminar 4.3. I had the same problem in my 3 computers: Dell at work, Dell XPS 13 notebook and my own assembled rig (a powerhouse) and can't pass the splash screen. Tried all tricks possible and listed in Skylum site to no avail. Reinstalled 4.2 and waiting for a fix which is way due already. Skylum is close to release Luminar AI and said they will support 4.3 up to a year already. Considering the time it is taking for them to come with a fix it seems that they are dedicating most of their efforts to the release of Luminar AI and I suspect they will offer something to everyone who bought Luminar 4.3... but this is just MHO.
