Did you have an approved card.... I assume you did if they stayed on the phone with you. Glad you finally got it done.

It looks to me like its the DOF not shutter speed. Use a smaller F stop.

[quote=pgerardi]Hi, I noticed that there was an update for my D5300 and decided to install.Twice I downloaded & tried to install but the camera does not recognize the file on the card. Did not want to proceed beyond that for fear that I might do more damage than good. Below are the steps I took:

Format card in camera
Downloaded file onto my Mac
Copied to card (yes to the root directory of the card)
Ejected card from Mac
Inserted card in camera & then turned on
Went to firmware version - did not get notification of update available

That's where I left it,as I said did go any further. Didn't want to take any chances of doing any harm.

You are almost right....I just updated my D3300 but they are almost the same except for file name extension.

I just updated my D3300 It is Easy, but you need to follow the directions to the tee. And You MUST use an approved card. Here is a link to the updates http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/products/21/D3300.html There are two updates, one for the camera and the lens update to support the AF-P. You do not say what your operating system is. Here is the windows instructions.

1. Create a folder on the computer hard disk and name it as desired. (d3300 update)
1.a format the card in the camera.
2. Download F-D5300-V101W.dmg to the folder created in Step 1.
3. Run F-D5300-V101W.dmg to extract the following file to a folder named “D5300Update”:
• D5300_0101.bin (the camera firmware)
4. Using a card slot or card reader, copy “D5300_0101.bin” to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
5. Insert the memory card into the camera memory card slot and turn the camera on.
6. Select Firmware version in the SETUP MENU and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
7. Once the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
8. Confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.
9. Format the card in the camera again.

I understand your point and it's most valid if you only use Lightroom. But this is what you can do with your original JPEG in Photoshop if you have an extra 2 minutes.

Too much red.....his raw adjusted is better.

Its a simple equation....Divide the photo size in dpi by 300, to get inches. a 16" x 20" would be 4800dpi x 6000dpi. Viewing distance also matters. A viewing distance of about 1.5 - 2 times the diagonal of print would be a good start. To many dpi does not hurt, but too few can.

The ideal resolution (dpi) of your artwork depends mostly on how far away the artwork is from the viewer. Here's a chart to show you what resolution to aim for when creating your artwork.

Viewing Distance Min Resolution
0.6m / 2ft 300 dpi
1m / 3.3ft 180 dpi
1.5m / 5ft 120 dpi
2m / 6.5ft 90 dpi
3m / 10ft 60 dpi
5m / 16ft 35 dpi
10m / 33ft 18 dpi
15m / 50ft 12 dpi
50m / 160ft 4 dpi
60m / 200ft 3 dpi
200m / 650ft 1 dpi
The above resolution chart is based on someone with good eyesight and in good light.

I have a bit of a problem figuring out how to make a very large print using a shot from my Canon 70D which has 20.2 MP.

RAW size image is 5472 x 3648.

Assuming an image is well in focus, after processing in LightRoom, what is the optimum size I can export the image at 300 dpi before going to ON1 Resize and enlarging it to, for want of argument, something like 16" x 24" or larger?

Any help would be much appreciated. The techie stuff gets me every time.

You can get a 12x18 with that size...If you want to view farther away you can go bigger...that also makes a difference (distance to view)

They will work, but you may need an adapter to fit the new lens.

They closed, after I had purchased four Nikons from them, including my D7200. When I got their call telling my my D7200 was in, I brought my D7000 and asked for their help updating the firmware. Was told download the instructions off the internet and do it yourself. Odd, I was the only one in the store at the time.
Now they are closed.

No wonder they are closed with customer service like that.....How about another friend etc that is computer savy......It really is not that complicated if you know computers.
