I got "Your answers reveal that kindness is your most dominant personality trait. You are very sensitive to others and rarely have a bad thing to say about anyone. People are constantly impressed by your thoughtfulness. If someone is having a bad day, you always seem to know how to make it better."

Me thinks I outfoxed the calculator. I was hoping for Grouch.

Did that URL in my post not work for you. The 'reserve' price of $199 seemed too low to buy much quality. I have checked all my usual sources and none feature it. I am one of thise people who insist on 'holding' and 'trying' before shelling out the shekels.

I need to eat some crow here. When I said $199 I thought that was the price. Later when I searched their web site I saw the price was one buck under 1700 bucks. That way beyond my needs. In fact, looking at all sorts of sales outfits it is clear at my price range I am down to point & shoots if anything.

John,

I suggest you always scrutinize a URL you post for the "s" as in https:// ... !! You must excise it! Then there's a much greater chance your link will succeed in leading the readership to what you intend them to view. Below I have modified your link, and just to be sure, verified that it worked.

By the way, their "special" holiday pricing deal ends tomorrow, which brings the total cost down to $1500. The camera appears interesting; I viewed this site a few weeks ago. For now, though, my next major purchase will be my 1st iPhone.

Kindly, lev29 :-D
John, br br I suggest you always scrutinize a URL... (show quote)

https was created for security purposes. Below is a quote from Wikipedia:

HTTPS (also called HTTP over TLS,[1][2] HTTP over SSL,[3] and HTTP Secure[4][5]) is a protocol for secure communication over a computer network which is widely used on the Internet. HTTPS consists of communication over Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) within a connection encrypted by Transport Layer Security or its predecessor, Secure Sockets Layer. The main motivation for HTTPS is authentication of the visited website and protection of the privacy and integrity of the exchanged data.

I have no problem with the 'wait and see'. But to qualify this as a toy is a mistake. Scientists have been using this method (various lens length) to improve the quality of their imagery for quite sometime now. This has been more visible since someone applied it in every day photography and published the result a few months ago.

It has to do with using the defined circle of diffusion created through multiple lenses in order to calculate what 'should be there'. This is far from the 'virtual digital zooms' results created in camera at the moment.

I am not disputing your remarks, but do you have some sources of information about this technology. I would like to get educated.

This is not toy. It looks like a toy, described like a toy, but uses a proven technology to enhance details and depth of field.

Do use the URL tags.

I am seeing ads for a camera that has multiple focal length lenses that all shot a scene and the camera blends them to make one image. Sounds like a toy but not toy-priced. Comments. Link below.

On the Sony a6000 camera there is a C1 button just a bit right of the shutter button, which would be in a natural index finger position. I have toyed with macking it a top button focus, TBF, button. But is has a Focus Mode default assignment, which one might want to keep. I have never liked the half-press shutter button deal. I am a left hander.

This will be acting. There will be no audience since no photography is permitted during actual performances. It will be dress rehearsal photos only. I didn't plan to use flash except maybe for individual portraits before the performance. Which lens do you think best for portraits - the 35mm 1.8, the 18-300 or the 70-200 2.8? I will take 2 cameras.
Thanks to John F. for the metering advice.

Will the house lights be on during rehearsal. If so, a lens hood might help to dilute the stage illumination. Is your granddaughter in a lead role, supporting role, minor role. In acting facial expression is as important as the lines and costuming, so your job is to capture her at just the exactly right moment. Your shutter finger will never beat that fleeting expression, so you might try to attend some early rehearsals. Hope you show us the masterpieces.

You have good sense which is more than I can say for those who advise to always use a lens hood.

Depending on the lens, the hood might be too large to fit a pocket; so the only practical way to lug it around is to put it on the lens.

I this past week had a Gmail problem raise its ugly head on my MacBookPro (late 2011 machine running OSX 10.7.5 Lion, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7). In the left-side panel of accounts and mail boxes the Gmail right side icon was a squiggly bar and clicking it did nothing. I had earlier changed my Gmail password from this iPad Air 2, I thought that was the problem. From Settings/Email I tried setting the password to the new (really for the purpose of updating the Keychain) but got the error saying "connection failed." So I am flummoxed at this point. All other Google & Chrome facilities work.

The problem is that many don't have the mindset that I and a lot of other people had to develop as classroom teachers. Every batch of new students has to learn the same information over again and asks the same questions. You learn to live with it or you get out of teaching before you go nuts.
The same thing with photographers:
New photographer = same questions over again
New equipment = same questions over again
New genre of photography = same questions over again
New PP software = same questions over again
New member of the UHH = same questions over again (like not knowing how to use search to find threads about that question)

Some of our members just don't understand that cycle and can't handle it. They would have made awful classroom teachers. A great many cannot do this. The average new classroom teacher only lasts 2-3 years. Some leave for more pay, but most leave because they just cannot fit in one way or another. And that repetition of the same questions, mistakes etc over and over is a large part of it.

This is a most thoughtful reply to OP and it suggests the Hog should consider a FAQ section constructed from the most informative replies to the common questions. I have noticed that B&H has been including guides to variois generalized subjects, not unlike the recent guide to stylish cameras, which was a fun read.

One thing about stage lighting is that it is usually bright enough to not need any auxilliary illumination. Any added light would brighten the audience and will surely be some 'baldie' to make glare. I would set to spot metering so that only the stage illumination counts.
