A little PP using Nikon View NX-2. Nikon D3100, 18-55mm kit lens at 35mm, f/16, 1/100th sec, ISO 200, tripod mounted. I think it could have been sharper but made the mistake of leaving VR turned on.

Also used a CPL filter.

After the Blizzard of 2015 just outside of Boston, I snapped a quick picture of a robin on the handle of my snow shovel. This was shot from inside my house, through double pane window at a 45 degree angle. Oddly enough, the part the is most in focus is the bird crap on the handle. Go figure!

Thanks, JerryC ... yep, anything north of the zoo (NYC) is considered upstate. I'm in Binghamton, about 70 miles south of Syracuse, right on I-81. Hope to gain some knowledge and have some fun here on this forum.

Welcome RG. My son goes to Ithaca College.

For a description, go to WikiPedia and search for Secure Digital. UHS refers to bus speed.

Is the Lexar Professional 600x 32GB SDHC UHS-I Flash Memory Card overkill for my Nikon D3100? I'm between this and the SanDisk Extreme 32GB UHS-I/U3 SDHC Memory Card. By the way, what is the "UHS-I" and "UHS-I/U3" referring to?

Thanks,

Dennis (aka Triplets)

It's not infrared. It started out as a color photograph of a local pond, island in the center, old farm implements being used as yard art, and some interesting reflections in the water. I converted the image to b&w using Silver Efex, then ran it through Smart Photo Editor's "Negative Photo" preset - all of which changed a rather mundane snapshot into a nifty offshoot of art. But I don't know what to call it.

Well, in Picasa, they have image processing names like Lomo-ish, Orton-ish and Hogla-ish. Why not just call it Yankle-ish?

Had a good friend who used to live on Merritt Island. He was a sheriff for Brevard County. Passed away earlier this year.

Save money on the grip and just up to the 7100 :) You'll get more battery life anyway!

Are you shooting in liveview? Autofocus? Disabling all of those helps battery life too..

Battery grip and extra battery is about $100-$150. D7100 is about $1500. With 3 kids in college, the former is more likely to happen than the latter.

That's exactly what I was using too! Are you editing in raw before exporting and loading into startrails?

Yes. Although I don't edit each individual image. I do it in batch using Nikon's View NX2, convert them to TIFF, then load them into the Star Trail software.

What freeware do you use?

Autofocus and IS off. No liveview.
