Or even with the remote, on Continuous with the maximum set to whatever the bracket spread is it only takes one push of the button.

Yes it requires holding it down long enough for all of the bracket exposures. That might be a pain with 30 second exposures (lock it down, and let go), but for the 1 second max exposures mentioned it just isn't a problem.

I was experimenting last night. You can do what you want with just the timer or the interval timer. In the menu for the timer, you can set the number of shots you want to take (set this to the number of bracketed exposures you set) and then set the interval between shots (0.5 secs is the shortest), and then set the delay. Thus with a delay of 2secs, when you press the shutter, after a two sec delay it will take the specified number of shots at the specified interval and if bracketing is enabled, you are done!! You can get fancier using the interval timer as was discussed in an earlier thread. If you want to do it at very fast intervals (as with the continuous high 6 fps), then you will have to use a cable release or radio transmitter I believe). I would still order that cable release. There are times it comes in handy. I have the cable, the infra-red (Nikon ML-L3), and a radio-transmitter and I use all three depending on the situation or which one I feel like digging out of the bag. I use the ML-L3 the most but the have to go into the menu to activate it each time (unless you want your batteries to run down).

Another potentially useful method would be the Interval Timer facility to trigger the shutter. That would provide totally hands off operation. See page 217 of the D7200 User Manual or page 145 in the D7100 manual. But be sure to read the entire section! Note that when used with exposure bracketing the camera will shoot the full set of brackets at each specified interval.

I tried this out last night. Very nice!!! Thanks for the tip. I also found it can be done with just the plain old timer (but not quite as sophisticated as with the interval timer).

I've had various periods of time when it would not work and then, mysteriously, work again. Others have reported the same.

Wait a few days and it might work. Or, maybe not.

I've found it is quicker to export a jpeg to a temporary folder, then drag the photo on top of my email program. It is one more step, but always reliable. It is easier to add some text, like a greeting.

Appreciate the feedback; but I was looking for a way to press and release ONLY the shutter release button and have it fire all five of the shots in the bracket to absolutely eliminate any chance of camera movement between shots - - The basic Nikon remote works; but I have to press it 5 separate times even in shutter continuous mode. Seems a little bogus!

I am also interested in this post since I am trying out some HDR landscape photos with a D7100. I think what Nodak is asking is how to do this easily without vibration or movement (ie. on a tripod using one push of a button). The only way I can do this on the d7100 is by using a shutter release cable or radio frequency remote shutter (like the Nikon WR-T10 or I have a cheap one made in China that works well). The ML-L3 does not work in this situation because you have to push it 5 times for 5 EV brackets. If anyone knows another way to do it I would also love to hear about it.

so far baby seems to be doing well....Daddy has ALOT to learn as he weens himself off of little sister D3100...photo's to come at a later time as Daddy wants to spend some alone time with D7100 and get to know him better, Daddy may come here to ask for some help every once in awhile...
PS little sister d3100 did get passed along to mommy :-P :-P

Good luck!! Its a great camera. I have had mine a year and I am still learning. I recommend the David Busch or Darrel Young's books on the camera. Both are great.

Hi,

Is anyone using this feature in LR6?

I'm using LR5 and considering an upgrade, primarily for this feature.... I shoot a lot of sporting events and it might be helpful when sorting and organizing the images in LR.... if it works well.

So I'd be very interested to hear from folks who have used it, if they've found it works well for their purposes.

I do a lot of family event photography and I have a really large family so I use the feature a lot. It saves me tons of time with keywording my family members. It gets about 1/2 of them, the other half I have to add manually but that is easy because you just drag the questioned face to the correct face above it on the face recognition panel. It even recognizes my pets!! But like others said, it sometimes labels my family members as inanimate objects or pets!!!

Nikon D7100 with 18-200 lens Noticed during a trip to the mountains a lot of my photos where way too bright. My wife has the same camera & lens that I have. And our cameras are setup identical & her pictures where a lot better than mind. We where shooting in aperture priority. Got home & did test side by side & notice her camera is metering darker than mind. Do I need to send in for repair or make some kinda ajustment?

I have the D7100 and I just purchased the Nikon 18-200 VRii lens. The first thing I noticed is that every picture is about 1/2 to 1 stop more exposed than it was with the Tamron 18-270 lens I was using on the D7100. I like the Tamron exposure better so for the Nikon lens I have to drop the exposure slightly in Lightroom. I probably will end up doing a preset in Lightroom or reduce it on the camera with exposure compensation. Would love to hear anyone's take on this. The Nikon is a slightly faster lens but I thought the camera would adjust for that.

Perhaps IS technology will progress to the point there is no need to remember to turn it off- ever? No switch, always on, would be a welcome improvement as I still from time to time have a problem remembering to check it. ;)

I second that!! It seems I forget to turn it off more than I do turn it off when using a tripod. In those cases I remember to turn it off, I usually forget to turn it back on for non tripod shoots.

I have the D7100 and SB700. It is a great flash for most indoor photography or fill flash outdoors. I plan to get a higher GN number Yongnuo unit eventually for those times when I need more power (which is rarely) or if I need a second flash.

As far as red eye, I never seem to have a problem with it but I try to use indirect flash whenever I can. I do use direct on the shoe occasionally with high ceilings or outdoors at night and I still don't have red eye issues very often. Don't forget FV lock on the D7100 which can help restrict those pupil sizes and also help prevent blinkers. I set my U1 for indoor flash photography and I have FV lock assigned to the Fn preview button.

I have taken thousands and thousands of photos almost exclusively in manual mode. I shoot in raw.
My problem is that i have developed a bad habit of frequently failing to check exposure before taking the shot. I am very attentive to composition and focal points but frequently forget to check the exposure meter in the viewfinder prior to taking the shot..
I use a Canon 5d MKiii and a Canon 7D MKii. I find the the 5D is easier to read as the exposure reading is on the bottom of the screen in the viewfinder. The 7D is a much trickier proposition as the meter is situated at the side of the image and runs vertically which I don't find very intuitive. I take a lot of action nature shots where speed is essential. I am loath to put the manual setting to Auto ISO, which overcomes the problem, as I find noise a real issue in low light shooting. With my action shots naturally the shutter speeds is always high.
What I am looking for is suggestions on how I can kill this habit and make checking the exposure an integral part of my routine prior to taking the shot. Any constructive suggest is welcomed. My bad habit means I waste a lot of time rescuing images in Lightroom and Photoshop. Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers. Brian Menzies.

When I first started shooting manual I did this exact same thing for about 3 months (less and less over time). I think I finally pissed myself off enough that it became ingrained in my memory to check the "needle" and make the necessary adjustments. I like the post-it note on the back of your camera. Sounds ridiculous but I bet highly effective!!

Well after using both lenses for a week, the Nikon lens does produce better photos. However, most of the difference I can only see at 1:1 enlargement. The Tamron does take nice photos and other than build quality, it is very close to the Nikon. I also found that cropping the nikon out to 270 mm gave very close results to the Tamron at that focal length.

I guess this was a stupid exercise since deep down inside I wanted the Nikon lens so it wouldn't have mattered what anyone said. I think I probably just wanted some opinions before I spent the money.
