Hi all, I recently purchased a d610 and don't seem to be getting very good battery life. I do shoot all raw but still seems off. With full battery charge I can take about 50 pics and battery drains 20%. Does this sound normal? I can't find any setting that should affect battery this much. Any ideas?

I would call Nikon and talk to the technical department. 1-800-nikon-us (1-800-945-6687). They are the ONLY ones who can tell you for sure. They may ask for a description of the battery, there are a lot of knock offs out their.
50 shots and 20% would would equal about 250 shots on a full charge. If you bought a USED D610, maybe the battery needs replacement. Depends to on how much you peak at your shots on the rear screen. But, 250 shots does seem low. Also make sure it is a genuine NIKON battery, there are a lot of knock off's out their with Nikon's name on the battery, BUT, it is not a Nikon battery.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

When I did film I spent more time in the Dark than I care to tell. I LOVED it. Taking the photo, for me, was always just the beginning. A sad fact is that I have lost many friends over the years because they spent so much time over those trays of chemicals. I count myself lucky that I escaped unscathed (at least, so far). I applauded digital when it was introduced because now I could manipulate images in the light, with no chemical interaction.
NO my friend, you are wrong, photography has taken a giant leap forward and I am happy to announce that I am ALL IN.
Artist's for thousand's of years have been able to CREATE their images, well, now we can more easily do so to.

Thanks. I have a lead on a one year old 200-500 for $900 Canadian. (About $700 US)
Waiting to hear back now.

Understand you have NO WARRANTY with a used Nikon lens. Buying new you have a 5 year warranty.
Today's lenses are complicated and have a lot of electronics in them.
I had issues with my 200-500, yes, Nikon fixed them but it was after the lens was a year old.
My advice, buy new and get the 5 year warranty.

Hi Bill... Nikon no longer repairs the F5 :(

No, but they may be able to aim him in the right direction. I have found them a plethora of information when it comes to discontinued items in need of repair. At least the folks who I have contacted there have been a help to me as I am a Nikon Professional Services Member.

Typical Walmart and Sams business deal . Everything they do is to their advantage . No interest in their customers .

Walmart has excellent customer relations. All one needs to know is how to go about it. I have found every thing they do is for the customer, and I have found no issues returning any item for a full and quick refund.
And yes, they are very interested in their customers being happy with their buying experience, that's the cornerstone of their business model.

The Z series is what happened

Yes, the Z's are hear for now, BUT, Nikon will also concentrate on updating their higher end bodies. I also believe their will be a 400 f4 soon that will pair with the new 500 5.6.
Anyway, the most important take away is that Nikon will not abandon the mirrored bodies for a long time.

Thanks all for your responses. Ok......I’ve given up on the idea of a teleconverter for this lens.
I will now start looking for a longer lens. Thanks again.

If you are looking, I strongly suggest the Nikon 200-500 5.6 lens. It will likely go on sale for around $1200.00 during Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or over the holidays. It is an excellent lens and has strong reviews from folks who use it.
Wow, looks like it is on sale NOW. And 4% back, so that's like an extra $48.00 you can use later for some goodie you've been wanting.

Hi all,

I have an F5 that is in need of repair - specifically the front wheel that controls aperture randomly selects an aperture value when spun. I've tried all of the home remedies to no avail. This is a common problem with these cameras, but I am finding it difficult to find anyone that will repair it.

Anyone have a recommendation? I have called numerous repair facilities and either they only work on DSLR's, or the F5 is not among the cameras that they will service.

Thanks!

I read an article about 6 months ago, that Nikon was going to announce the update to the D750 around the end of 2019. Well, the 2019 year is coming to a close. Nikon has released two full frame mirrorless cameras, and a crop sensor mirrorless, the Z-50, which is pre-order now. The D750 was released in the Fall of 2014, with 24 megapixels. And later became Camera Of The Year, by the now terminated Popular Photography Magazine. The D760 was rumored to have a Sony 36 megapixels sensor, the same that is in the D-810 and the Pentax K:-1, which was Pentax's first full frame camera. The D760 was to have 4K video. The D750 sold new for about $2200 when released. You can get brand new and refurbished ones, at much lower prices today. The D810 is discontinued now, but still available in refurbished or used. Wouldn't an upgrade to the D750, be a D810? They are still available. The D760 would certainly cost at least $2200. Or will Nikon just scrap the D760 altogether. With Nikon concentrating on Mirrorless Cameras for the future.

Nikon NEVER said anything about updating the D750 around any date. SORRY.
Nikon rarely publishes anything ahead of an announcement. However, just recently Nikon stated they would be bringing out the D6, but specifics were not discussed.

Coming from 40+ years of film, should I still be obsessed with fast lenses? I liked them for easy focusing (MF). Fast lenses became more important as I aged.

Do current autofocus lenses gain any advantage from faster lenses?

Thanks

Generally speaking faster lenses acquire focus faster on a subject and are faster focusing in general in comparison to slower lenses. Plus the out of focus thingie.

I purchased a Z7 body from Walmart and less than 20 frames I received an Err message. After calling Nikon, they told me a software upgrade might correct it. It did not. I talked them into emailing me a prepaid UPS label and off it went. Surprise. After a couple of days I receive an email stating they can’t repair it. I had unknowingly purchased a gray market body, without being told. The unopened box from Nikon is sitting on the dinning room table and I am dealing with My credit card folks. If this doesn’t work, Walmart to Small Claims Court. Unhappy Camper.

You can go to small claims court. BUT, Walmart did not sell the camera. A third party working with Walmart did. You have learned a valuable lesson grasshopper.
You need to contact the third party seller directly, If you cannot find out who it was, Walmart may be able to give you contact information on the third party seller. Be courteous with Walmart, they are not at fault, and you can get more cooperation with honey than vinegar.
Find out who the third party vendor is.
You can also find out the country of origin of the camera. For instance, if it came from Japan, then Nikon Japan will fix it, you have a one year warranty, so find the country of origin and find out the address of the repair facility for that country and send the camera to them.
Good luck grasshopper.

Does anyone have first hand knowledge of a good teleconverter for a Nikon DX AF-S 4.5-5.6 ED 55-300 lens? Looking for a 2 X but might consider a 1.7. Appreciate any and all replies.
I’ll take the good and the bad. Thanks.

Please read the following before you buy.
1. There has not been a telconverter made that IMPROVES image quality.
2. Teleconverters work best on fast Prime lenses like a 300 2.8 or a 600 f4. They work worse on slower prime lenses and work worst on zoom lenses and work even worser or slow zoom lenses.
3. A 1.4 is best, a 1.7 is worse, a 2.0 is the worst.
4. A 1.4 on your lens brings it to an F8, that is the threshold for auto focus on many Nikon camera's. And your auto focus will be slow and not work in low light.
If you put a 1.7 or a 2.0 it will NOT autofocus on your camera, you can only manual focus, and it will be very dark through the viewfinder.
Do us all a favor and forget the idea of a teleconverter on your lens. You will not be happy, and the images will not be sharp. And you will not be happy, and it will be a waste of money, and you'll have buyer remorse forever.

After my recent vacation and carrying my Nikon D5300 camera on a strap around my neck, I think it’s time to get a harness chest carrier. I have been looking at the Cotton Carrier and at $120, it’s a bit steep. I am looking to carry just one camera.

I would use the harness for hiking, vacations, biking, and anytime I want to be hands and neck pain free. Hiking canyons two weeks ago was tough with my camera bouncing around, and I found myself holding it steady with one hand while around my neck.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

I have one in a box, never used, was thinking about using it this winter in Florida. One camera mounts on your chest and one on your hip. It is a cotton carrier. But I am not sure about selling it. I may try it with my new Sony 200-600 lens. If it does not work out, I will sell it. Keep me in mind or private message me if your interested. You will have to wait however until I test it.
I use my bicycle in Loxahatchee National Wetlands so I am going to see if the rig lets me ride my bike and have that monster lens on my chest. I use the bike it to photograph Snail Kites.
