Thanks. I am staying not far from the gate, so that one is easy.

Any out of the ordinary sights or activities?

Going to Berlin in late September. The wife is running the Marathon. I plan one side trip to Amsterdam to see a friend. Any suggestions photography related or otherwise?

NorthsideJoe and myself (rpavich) are going to meet in Pitt this saturday for lunch and to shoot some images...not sure of what yet...and anyone else who can make it is welcome to come...stay tuned for the location and time...

Sound off here if this works for you so we know what to expect and we don't leave anyone behind. :)

I guess you absolutely MUST do the obligatory Mt. Washington shots. And then go find interesting shots of bridges. Also, there are a few churches with amazing Tiffany windows, one is on the Northside somewhere so Joe should know. Carnegie Mellon students still use it for art class assignments I hear. The gothic architecture (the jail and the courthouse) are great to shoot. Phipps Conservatory and the Cathedral of Learning in the Oakland section are worth a look, and “The O” for really bad-for-you hot dogs might be worth a lunch, unless you have you heart set on Primanti Brothers in the strip district.

Wish I could join you.

Can't in good conscience suggest a $60 tripod. It is just lost money. You will eventually have to get a good tripod and a good head. Spend it now rather than later. A $300 set up will cost $300. Buying a $60 tripod just means you will be out $360 by the time you buy a good midrange tripod. Or more if you buy something in between the $60 and the $300 first.

I mean you spent what $3000 on the camera body? Who knows how much on lenses!!! And you want to plunk that onto a cheapo tripod!!!???

Is the serial number contained in the firmware of the camera? Anyone know?

I have a couple of jpg files that have been edited and I would like to make a couple of minor adjustments to them. But I know that as I continue to 're-edit' these files, they lose information and become lower quality images.

what if:
I save the present image as a tiff file
edit the tiff
then convert it back to a jpeg\

Would I lose anything?

Just don't save it with the same name. Also what program are you using to edit?

Some programs don't change the original, but simply apply a set of changes every time you open it until you export (to a new file name)

I would suggest checking Photographer's Ephemeris for the dates that you're going to be there to determine position/time of sunrise in relation to your subject. We got some really nice shots there at sunset, but our guide knew when and where to set up.

I just checked and, if I recall correctly, the main temple will be back lit if approached from the usual entrance across the water.

Photographer's Ephemeris available as both an Ios and Android app.

I want to photograph Angkor Wat at sunrise in March. Not sure where to start. Should I set my Fstop to 16 and go from there if I takea tripod a ?
Should I also alter the white balance? I'm new at this. Thanks

Here is what google shows as a sunrise photo there. As Sharpshooter suggested, I think bracketing and HDR might serioulsy have helped this image. It looks rather flat to me.

Obviously, I think that a 75th birthday allows for a lot of GAS!!!

It's your birthday!!! Buy a really good super zoom. Like the Sony RX10 or the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS30. They are lighter, cover a greater range.

Another posibility is mirrorless like the soon to be released (begininnig of September) Sony a5100 (24 MP APS-C) with an 18-200mm zoom. It would set you back $14 or 15 hundred, but it is YOUR BIRTHDAY!!!!

And this mirrorless stuff is light enough that you could take another lens like their 10-18 for another $750.00. But in town you might want the wide angle for buildings and street scenes.

But you will probably be too busy saying things like:

"I can't believe how NICE these Irish people are!!!"

And they are amazingly nice.

If you use a monopod, play with image stabilization ahead of time. Some people need it with a monopod and some should turn it off.
