Going to Berlin in late September. The wife is running the Marathon. I plan one side trip to Amsterdam to see a friend. Any suggestions photography related or otherwise?

Have a great time and don't forget to take a camera. We want to see photographs of Berlin in September.

Good luck to your wife running in the marathon.

Thanks. I am staying not far from the gate, so that one is easy.

Any out of the ordinary sights or activities?

The Van Gogh museum and a canal boat tour in Amsterdam are great things to do/see.

Take a tripod for night photos, Berlin is full of history and fascinating buildings. Visit the Pergamon museum, the Reichstag, walk Unter den Linden, the Tiergarten flea market. Or you could take me along.

I have been to Berlin several times since the Reunification, and am going there again this October. After reunification, the government spent a fortune rebuilding the former eastern side, and it is now an architectural masterpiece - amazing buildings. Also, the Tier Garten is a a huge park, kind of like their Central Park, with walking paths, a zoo, lakes, etc. Also great jazz clubs. Go to the restored Reichstag Building. Have fun!

I picked up the Canon 10-18 for wide angle shots to cover some of the suggestions.
Thanks

Berlin and Amsterdam are both great cities with lots of potential for many things, however your invitation for responses is sufficiently (if not intentionally and explicitly) open ended that you might get more information than you actually want given the socially tolerant nature of the two cities!

Hope you both have an excellent trip, whatever you get up to!

Good choice, regardless of the location!

Don't know about your taste in photographers, but the Helmut Newton Museum (in Berlin) is worth a visit, don't leave it too late in the day though.

My wife has already laid out very explicit restrictions regarding Amsterdam.
