SteveR, I think you have just answered a query I posted a while ago in the Main Photography Discussion section. I had reviewed the 2 recommended sections and decided that Photo Gallery might be the better choice, and was asking if that would be acceptable. You, at least, seem to think it would be. (Can someone in charge move my mispositioned post to the Photo Gallery?)

If that was directed at me--thank you.

I'm a new guy here and not too familiar with the way things work yet. I just today posted a set of photos of a church in Paris, France and put it on the Main Discussion forum--I have been advised that was the wrong location and it was suggested to use either the Christian Photography Group or the Photo Gallery instead. I have checked the current usage of both of those and it seems to me that the Christian forum is more keyed to discussion (with some photos) and the Gallery is mostly photos (with some discussion). I'm not particularly interested in discussing various issues in the Christian world, so would it be all right to post my church pictures in the Gallery?

No, it's the Empire Builder, but in 2 sections, with 4 days/nights in Glacier National Park hotels. There is a resident Guide that accompanies the Group on the train and makes all the tour arrangements within the Park and other stops. Here is the Itinerary, in brief: Day 1 involves getting the Group (usually not more than 10 people) together at a Chicago hotel with an overnight there; Day 2 has a guided tour of Chicago by coach (bus) and boarding the train at Union Station (sleep on train); Day 3 is mostly travel (3 meals on train) with arrival at East Glacier Park that evening (overnight in hotel); Days 4-7 are touring the park with the red coaches and 3 more hotel overnights, boarding the train again the evening of Day 7 (overnight on train); Day 8 begins with arrival in Seattle and a morning coach tour of the city; lunch on your own and afternoon free time, final dinner in hotel (overnight in hotel); Day 9 is the official end of the tour, breakfast furnished.

I was traveling alone, and contracted for a "Roomette" on the train--I was comfortable and slept well. My photos of that tour are on Flickr® here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/collections/72157635037593408/. As it happens, when that tour was over, I jumped on a coach shuttle to Vancouver, BC and joined another tour for 16 days across Canada using the Rocky Mountaineer to Banff, AB, coach to Jasper, AB, and Canada Rail to Halifax, NS. If you're interested, my photos of that part of my summer are here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/collections/72157635052196955/.

The 9-day tour uses the regularly-scheduled Empire Builder trains, with a 4-day hiatus in the Park. I really enjoyed it.

Yep. I do that. I've gotten fairly good at finding ways to stabilize the camera when using a slow shutter (as low as 1/4"); I use faster shutters when photographing the stained glass windows. I don't even take a tripod because so many places don't allow them (nor do I usually have enough time to set one up); never use a flash, either.

weberwest, I'm interested in your work in Iran. I spent most of 1969-1971 there, headquartered in Tehran as part of ARMISH-MAAG (USAF part). I was the "Radar Advisor to the IIAF" and a Captain O-3. I spent a lot of my time going around to the various IIAF radar sites and working with the Advisor/Tech Rep teams. I've been to Dezful, Isfahan, Shiraz, Bushehr, Tabriz, Mashad, Shahrabad, and Babolsar. I even stuck my toe in the Caspian so I could say I'd been in Russia! (Russia claims the entire sea, you know, right up to the banks.) I will say duty there wasn't too bad while the Shah was on the throne, and I left way before he was deposed. I do have some of my photos of Iran out on Flickr® but many slides have yet to be scanned. (None of them have enough detail to be considered classified.)

SteveR and Mac, please don't argue about my newbie goof. I wasn't aware that there were better places to put my post, but I do now, and that is all that matters. I'm not sure whether "Christian Photography Group" is better than "Photo Gallery"--it seems to me that the former forum is more geared to discussion and the latter to pictures.

Some years ago I did briefly visit Saint-Sulpice but I didn't get many usable photos at that time. In 2015 (when I went to Saint-Severin) there was to be an organ recital in the evening and I was able to listen to several of the recitalists practicing when I was inside. The only other "lesser" church I had time for on that trip was Saint Ambroise, about 1/2 mile (1 km) south of Place de la République. I did get some nice (I think) photos there and will make a post using them soon. Almost all my travels are programmed tours, so my "free" time for church crawling is always limited.

This web site is very new to me. When I return from my travels I spend considerable time post-processing my photos and uploading them to Flickr®; I then spend even more time doing web research to identify what the photos are (I succeed for about 70% of them)--I have a little I-gotU GPS logger I carry and it makes it possible to locate where I was (fairly well) when a photo was taken, and that does help. You may have noticed that I'm posting directly from Flickr®, which has several advantages: anyone who is interested may click on the link and get to the photo posted there, which has my Description and all the EXIF data, as well as location (for many of them). My post-processor (Lightroom®) also has the ability to easily upload my photos to Flickr® already organized into Albums, which makes my work to organize the photos a lot easier. (I really like the hierarchical structure of Flickr®.) I suspect I will continue to use Flickr® as my primary repository and display medium, but I'll post some photos here from time to time.

I also have just joined this site yesterday and now found this Group. I posted in the Main Photography Discussion forum today some photos of the Saint-Severin Church in Paris, France and was quickly advised that I'd put them in the wrong place. Hopefully, someone will move the post either to here or to the Photo Gallery. In the meantime, you might go there and browse "Lesser known churches in Paris, France #1".

I highly recommend the AMTRAK 9-day guided tour. I did the one from Chicago to Seattle and enjoyed it immensely.

I really like the "garage" (but I'd probably call it a barn, or maybe an "outbuilding").

I will keep that in mind. I didn't see a "Christian photography" section.

I appreciate the compliment! This was my first attempt at a posting here (other than a couple of responses to others) and I was hoping it would be well received.

When folks go to Paris, France, whether they use "canned" tours or do it on their own, most of them only see 3 churches: Notre Dame Cathedral; Sainte-Chapelle; and the Sacred Heart Basilica of Montmartre (Sacre-Coeur). Notre Dame and Sainte-Chapelle are located near each other on the Ile de la Cité and Sacre-Coeur is somewhat farther afield (but worth it). Paris, however, has many other churches that are fully deserving of a visitation, and (being a "church person") I often attempt to find and enter some of the lesser-known ones when I tour. This photo essay will cover the Church of Saint Severin, which is located a gentle walk from the Ile de la Cité, and very lovely inside.

This is what it looks like from the street

I spent 4 days and nights in Glacier National Park and its Canadian counterpart back in summer 2013, as part of a 9-day AMTRAK guided tour. It was fabulous! Most of this collection was photographed in the Park: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/collections/72157635037593408/. (I don't want to clutter the thread originator's lovely pictures with my own here--if you're interested, go to the link.)
