I wondered about the coatings.

Upon further research, it seems like on modern filters, the coating isn't as susceptible to damage as older filters. That said, you still have to be careful not to scratch the glass.. As far as filters getting stuck in the first place, less expensive filters use aluminum for the filter mount. Better ones (more costly) use Brass, which is less likely to bind...

The last thing you want on fine threads is ANY kind of oil or grease. Keep the threads DRY and clean, never force anything, you should never have a problem.

I'll second that as any oil or grease will attract dust and gum up the threads. Plus, they are a b**** to remove from the filter glass and you are likely to remove coatings when removing them...

Our local hospitals here are in regular operation, and we regularly have news stories telling people that, so any not getting treatment are responsible themselves for that.

More to the point of this thread, we could all help make others feel more comfortable by lowering the level of infection, by
1. Sanitizing hands
2. Distancing
3. Masking
4. Avoiding crowds

And doing all this until a vaccine is developed that is effective? How many more months will that be?

It does conclude that “ ‘A mask is probably better, but to make the conclusion that a gaiter is worse than no mask at all…is likely wrong,’ says Dr. Flores, ‘and further studies would need to be done.’

Matthew Ferrari, PhD, of the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics at The Pennsylvania State University, says it’s ‘striking’ how poorly neck gaiters performed, although ‘in general, we consider gaiters and other single-ply coverings/masks to be less effective than multiple-ply coverings‘

To wear no mask at all is still the bad choice, and most likely a multi-layer mask is better than a thin ‘breathable’ thing.

I see too many people wearing masks and not properly (their noses are not covered or the masks bow at the sides). They might as well not wear one....Surely worse than a neck Gaiter. The same goes for anybody with facial hair as the mask won't properly block particles. Those N95 masks have to be fitted to work properly, otherwise, they also will not block all particles.. I have COPD and can't breathe properly with most masks.

I have them on all my lenses to save the lens.

I have yet to have a lens get damaged from a lack of a "protective" filter since 1972 and I have an extensive number of lenses...That said, it's a matter of personal choice anyway...

I would never have that problem as I don't use UV filters....The only time I've had stuck filters is on used lenses I bought off of eBay.... I used filter wrenches in those cases...

The people listed as living in poverty in our country would not be listed as living in poverty in other countries...I just read an article putting Stockholm's infection rate as the same as London's. Yet Stockholm didn't lock down their population like London did... What that tells me is that the lockdowns are not as effective as what many believe...

USPS Informed Delivery
You can get a scanned picture of letters and notification of a package.

I’ve not really had many issues with letters except certified letters and packages. Right now I’m awaiting a certified letter that been en route since before the 10th. Plus the 10th it was scanned in Maryland. It should have even delivered by the 13th. I had a package from California take over 2 weeks. Normally I would have had it within a week.

I would think different states have different rules. I know here absentee b****t requests went out to all register v**ers.

The problem with mail in v****g is that they would mail out b****ts to every registered v**er, even if those v**ers were dead or had moved...Plus the b****ts that are not properly filled out are another source of contention...

The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act, which requires the Postal Service to prepay health and medical benefits for 75 years was passed into law in 2006. Bothe the Legislative and Executive Branches were controlled by republicons at the time. President Obama had nothing to do with it

You do realize that the USPS retirement fund was underfunded at that time and it was just a matter of time before they faced an even bigger financial crisis. They were taking funds earmarked for the retirement fund for general spending. That’s like robbing your 401k to pay for current bills. Not a good strategy as then you have nothing to retire on. If this hadn’t been done, retirees would have nothing in their retirement savings .

Interesting. Know I'm not one to complain, I'm satisfied with the USPS. But the constant sound of their financial woes grows on deaf ears.

Looking at this "Informed Delivery", they're giving away information for free. They could rightfully set a subscription fee for this service. You know any other retailer would figure out a fair cost and rake it in. They'd package the daily email with a discount on shipping, ability to print stamps at home, make it an annual commitment with an automatic renewal. My guess would be $3-5 a month, less than the cost of one coffee at Starbucks. And people would sign up still... After all, information is king. I have to wonder how many millions are signed up for the service. I bet a large number of UHH readers just signed up after reading this thread... It just illustrates that those running the USPS are not in the mindset for running a business, but more being a governmental agency.

I have "Informed Delivery" and it is fraught with errors. If they went to a paid model, they would have to seriously improve their accuracy... Note that on each individual package tracking, they also have a "Premium" tracking service and there is a cost for that......
