Now, let us hope those in charge of the large Jets with 2 powerful Engines, find the reason why one of those Jet engines exploded in mid flight killing a Mother, Wife and Daughter to whom she once was part of their life. Now gone. So very Sad indeed. Very Scary too.

I flew jets, both military and civilian for 40 years. I retired from the flying business with 35,000 hours of flying time (4000 hours in jet fighters and 31,000 in airliners) and never had an engine come apart on me. How many people are killed by defective cars or car components each year? The safety record of U.S. airlines is remarkable - it is really not fair to take a very isolated incident like this and highlight it when people are dying on the highways every day with no comment from anyone. Agreed that any death is unfortunate but please try to keep in perspective.

A nice reminder to those of us that relocated from the East Coast what it was about fall that we looked forward to. Nice job.

To all of you that have replied so nicely to my Sedona with Snow photo I give thanks. I believe that in this case, the success of the picture lies in the planning and preparation more than in the actual photographing of the subject. We watched the weather reports for several weeks and when we saw that a big storm was coming, we went up the day before. This was the real reason for the photo turning out so well as Sedona is only at 4500 feet elevation and even with a strong storm, the snow does't last that long once the sun comes out. This also let us go up to the Grand Canyon which is at around 7500 feet and get some good shots of the Canyon with snow which I will post at a later date. Again, my thanks for your many kind comments.

After visiting Sedona many, many times in the Fall, I decided to keep track of the winter weather and drive up when there was a good chance of snow on the red rocks. This was taken last winter and is my favorite because of the white snow on the red rocks, the dark clouds and the inclusion of an iconic landmark - the Chapel of the Holy Cross which is the light colored building in the right third of the photo. It was constructed in 1956 and in 1957 the American Institute of Architects awarded it their Award of Honor. It is a Catholic church but is open daily to everyone and is one of the most popular attractions in Sedona.

Lonewolf 456 - I don't either. No matter what, there always seems to be some ###### on this site that needs to make some unnecessary and unwanted comment. I just don't get it. It happens all too often, and it's not called for. Some new photographer to this site is just asking a simple question to get some feedback about something they don't understand and along comes #### running off at the mouth(keyboard) with inappropriate comments. I was under the impression that this site was about sharing our experience and skills with other upcoming photographers. My mother always taught us when we were kids, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything.
I think that the administrators or monitors of this site need to put out a warning to the person(s) making unwelcome comments that if they continue to make crass remarks they will be banned from this site. I for one am sick and tired of having to see inappropriate comments.

I fully agree. If we don't help newcomers, where are our new members going to come from? I thought the main purpose of this site was to connect photographers of all levels of skill so that we could all learn from the experience. Fortunately, there are enough members willing to answer a question that many consider basic but these folks with negative still leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Puerto Penasco (also called "Rocky Point) Mexico is about a 4 hour drive from our home in Tucson and is a favorite destination for people all over Arizona who want to get away to the ocean. You will notice that I did not say "get away from the desert" as it is part of the Sonoran Desert and is even more of a desert than the landscape around Tucson or Phoenix. However, it is on the Sea of Cortez and is a quaint little town whose main economic pursuits are fishing and tourism. After suffering from all the nasty political ads leading up to yesterdays election, my wife and myself drove to Puerto Penasco last week and spent 3 days in a charming B&B that was within walking distance of almost everything in town. The main part of town is located on the Malecon which is a completely renovated area along the waterfront and is the location of most of the restaurants, bars, gift shops etc. We walked everywhere and really enjoyed the ambience and hospitality of the town and its people.
We ate fresh seafood every night with the average price per meal running about $10 and spent several early evening happy hours at bars with beautiful ocean views and great margaritas. Hope you enjoy the photos of this little known (at least to people outside of Arizona) destination.

You're in Full Screen Mode. Hit Ctrl-Alt-f on your keyboard to return to normal mode. Having done that, take a glance at >Window >Screen Mode and choose which option you prefer. Keyboard commands are shown, too.

How lucky can I be! Yours was the very first reply and you solved the problem.

Many thanks Cany143 and also to all the others that replied to my problem so rapidly.

I have been using the subscription service from Adobe for several months now with no problems - Lightroom, Lightroom Classic and Photoshop all worked as advertised. Now suddenly (maybe after one of the updates) when I use Lightroom Classic, the top bar that has the choices "file, edit, develop" etc. on the left side and should have the usual symbols to minimize, maximize or close on the right side suddenly is without the symbols. I therefore cannot minimize the program to do something else or to close the program I have to go to the "file" selection and choose "close". My other two Adobe programs have the symbols but Lightroom Classic does not.

I am sure there is probably a simple solution to this but sometimes the simple problems are the hardest to solve. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

If you think you have to be quick on the trigger to limit yourself to a few frames, you should see what firing the 20mm gatling gun in an A-7 or F-16 is like! If you pull the trigger and wait until you hear the gun start to fire, you have already fired over 30 shots! The gun has two rates of fire that can be selected by the pilot - 4000 rounds per minute or 6000 rounds per minute. The high rate equates to 100 rounds per second! Yeah, I know this has nothing to do with photography but it just reminded me of my younger days.

Living in the Desert locale of Tucson, AZ, every now and then my wife and I take a mini-vacation of a few days in Puerto Penasco, Mexico (also known locally as Rocky Point). It is a 4 hour and 30 minute drive from Tucson and is located where the Sonoran Desert meets the Sea of Cortez. This is a lovely time to visit this little town as the weather is mild and if you go during the week, it is not crowded. The whole experience is that it just boils down to being by the ocean for a few days. It is a quaint little town with interesting shops, bars, restaurants and of course THE OCEAN !

Several years ago I watched a Natgeo special on Coyotes. Our coyotes (New England) were hunted almost to extinction. Your coyotes migrated through Canada and down through northern New England. On this migration they mated with Gray Wolves and domestic dogs. The product of that is a hybrid called Coy- Dogs and Coy- Wolves. Our coyotes are now larger than yours. This one is probably a Coy- Wolf. It has the legs and gait of a wolf. I wouldn't want to be a rabbit or squirrel anywhere near that thing. Thank you for looking and commenting. I'm really glad you liked them. Gary

Thanks Gary - I really appreciate you updating the info. I don't know how much of a problem your coyotes are in your neck of the woods but ours are getting so numerous in even the heavily populated areas that Fish and Game are now authorized to shoot them with a paint ball gun! It was just announced this morning so I have no idea how effective it will be.

Very interesting. Our coyotes out here in the west are generally shades of grey. In the 51 years I have lived in Arizona, I have never seen a tan coyote. I wonder what caused the genetic mutation?
Great pictures of an animal that really adapted well to the human presence. Thanks for posting.

This past weekend was the annual Tucson Classics Car Show sponsored by the the Rotary Club of Tucson with proceeds going to charity. This year there were 430 cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles and other vehicles entered and the weather was perfect. The entry fee was $5 and that included a raffle ticket to win a 2005 Corvette (or $15,000). I thought it was interesting that the ticket stated that "NO DOGS OR POLITICAL SIGNS ALLOWED" Here are five of my favorites - hope you enjoy them.
