If I'm able to do the trip again, I would try to fly to some locations. We spent quite a bit of time driving from one area to the next, and while we enjoyed the landscape and seeing the villages and the people, it really cut into our opportunity to see the animals. We did Amboseli to Tarangire to Ngorongoro to Serengeti to Masai Mara to Nakuru, then back to Nairobi. It was a long way on some of the roads! But it was wonderful. We stay in touch with our two guides - great guys.

She thought her whole family would be devoured by lions or leopards, I guess. She's a bit of a worrier! I'd love to get her to go - I know she'd love it if she did. Yes, I would go back every year if I could, too. By the way, saw the shots of your hippo eating the wildebeest. Wow! I knew they were the most dangerous animal in Africa, but I sure didn't know that they sometimes eat meat. I appreciate all you do, in addition to your great shots, to educate the rest of us.

Wow! I really enjoyed your Africa pics. So many reminded me of what we saw, even though you went to different places than we did, other than Sheldrick and Nakuru N.P. Yes, we went to Sheldrick and to the Giraffe Centre. We continue to foster an elephant in the nursery in Nairobi. They do such great work. Thank you for posting your shots - you must have had a wonderful trip, as did we. I would love to go back. And I am jealous of all your pictures of the geranuks! We saw just one and I couldn't get the camera up fast enough to get it as we whizzed by on one of the dirt roads. I enjoyed the memories that your photos brought back.

Yes, Africa is indeed amazing! Took my 2 daughters in 2019 and they're dying to go back. I'd love to, too, but my wife worried so much the last time that I don't know that I can talk her into another trip, but what an amazing part of the world. I may have to live vicariously through your shots and narratives!

Wow - more great shots! Thank you for sharing them. Great memories of visiting the nursery in Nairobi. Yes, the keepers are incredibly dedicated to the elephants in their care. And yes, fortunately, there are other non-profits that are doing great work to save and rescue at-risk wildlife. It is a steep uphill battle. I look for your shots daily. Thanks again for sharing.

Thank you, once again, not only for your beautiful photos of amazing wildlife, but for your informative narratives, particularly regarding the struggles that abound in Africa. I also want to thank you for the mention of Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. They do amazing work in Kenya, particularly with saving orphaned elephants, but also lending aid to any animals who need help as well as education and ecological support.

Thanks for sharing so much information on these wonderful people. It helped fill in a few gaps in what we learned on our trip. And you are so right - their music and singing has such a mesmerizing sound and quality. Their dances are also pretty amazing. The men jump straight up, very high, an you have captured the part of their dance when they bend their knees. And their smiles - such great smiles. On of our guides was Maasai, also, and I still correspond with him, 3 years later. Your pictures have done a great job in displaying their joy of living.

Once again, an excellent set. So glad you were able to go the the Giraffe Center. It really is a great place to go to see these wonderful animals and to learn about them and actually touch and feed them. Great background on how it came to be and the slow but steady success they are having reestablishing the Rothschilds. Were you able to go to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage? They do some fabulous work with elephants but are also involved in many endeavors to save African wildlife and preserve natural areas for them. Keep those Africa pics coming!

I always look forward to and enjoy your posts. Your shots are excellent, as always - I aspire to get any that are near as good and so finely detailed. I am very saddened to learn that three of the Fast Five are now gone. We saw all five when in the Maasai Mara area in 2019, and they were, of course, magnificent. Thank you for attaching the link to your post. Lots of great info on the Fast Five, and cheetahs in general. Magnificent animals, and your pics of them, and all your wildlife shots, do them justice.

I always look for your posts, as they are always excellent and always of critters I want to see. You got some great shots of the vulture - they really are something to see in flight.

Hi, Steve. I went a couple of years ago and rented a Tamron 150-600G2 and also borrowed another camera body with a 28-55 or some such. It worked out very well. I really liked the Tamron, but sometimes you will be too close (if you're lucky) to use it. I suggest you leave the prime at home. I just don't see it having the versatility that you will want on safari. I think other suggestions for a bridge camera are good ones. You don't want to have to try to change lenses - chances are you'll miss some good shots, and the dust is pervasive. I'd love to go again, but probably won't be able to, so take lots of memory cards and fill those suckers up! Have a great trip.

Once again, great set of pics. We're heading to Utah in a couple of weeks and are really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, looks like we're not going to be able to see this area. Thanks for sharing these - beautiful!
