Great shot of the moon! I live in the Hudson Valley, it was definitely a strange sight to see the moon that color. The whole day was hazy from here. I can see for miles to the east, and visibility was significantly less with all the smoke. I remember last year, the same thing happened, and we could look directly at the sun until it was about 2 hours after sunrise. Almost apocalyptic.

I thought of another way to see the 9/11 memorial. Immediately to the south, is the World Center Hotel. On the 20th floor, they have their hotel bar. The front desk should let you up, but from there, you can look down into the footprints of the WTC Twin Towers. It really is amazing to see. We stayed there a few years ago, and our room had a balcony that overlooked the memorial. They turn off the waterfalls at night, and they come back on around 6am.

In Manhattan's lower west side directly adjacent to the High Line (a nice experience in and of itself with lots of photo ops) in Hudson Yards is a structure called "The Vessel". It is an outdoor spiral staircase. If you have the stamina to climb it and you are not afraid of heights, it has great views from the top!

This will only work with a companion now. They have increased security, and will not allow "singles" on the Vessel anymore. Too many jumpers over the past year.

One of my favorite things to do in NYC with my camera is to find abstract photos among all the buildings and sidewalks. Particularly, if you go down to Battery Park, the sidewalks there are this great hexagonal stone. There are benches, stairs and planters all around that area. It can really make for some interesting shots, especially in B&W. Also, there are some great opportunities for similar abstract shots around the 9/11 memorial and the PATH station there. If you're so inclined, you can head over to the NJ side of the Hudson, there is a park there with a 9/11 memorial as well. It provides some great shots over the river to WTC.

You can also find great shots in the Village, and around South Street Seaport (you'll be close to this area), and will allow for some shots looking up at the Brooklyn Bridge. I would also recommend doing the same when you're on the BB. As you get to the towers of the bridge, pause and look up. The stone, the cables and the flags can all line up for some great shots.

Just a suggestion to keep in mind as you're photographing all the other locations on your list. Especially if you plan to make a photo book of your trip, these can serve as great backgrounds to a collage, or, you might even find that some of these shots will be worth printing. I printed a couple of my shots from this day and they are in my office: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-611364-1.html

I would also suggest a trip to B&H. Its the best!

Most importantly, keep aware of your surroundings, have fun and be safe!

Try focusing in with a small aperture, then opening up the aperture to take your shot. The dof is so thin at times at wide open apertures that any slight swaying of your body will throw off focus. When the dof is that thin, try setting your shutter to high speed burst mode and spray and pray. You will greatly increase your chances of getting an in focus shot.

Thanks lowkick! I'll give this a shot next time I use the lens.

I have the Lensbaby Sweet 35 and 50 lenses. They're fun to play with once in a while, but focusing is really difficult. I wear glasses, so couple that with my eyepiece possibly being off a little, I rarely get what I want from either of the lenses. While they rarely get used, I can't bring myself to get rid of them.

I wonder and worry however that the Peak cord on the plate interferes with easy ability to insert into the Peak clip . Anyone has this problem?

I have a manfrotto tripod with their proprietary "quick release" plate. The PD bracket does not fit, so I do have to remove that point of the strap when using my tripod. Its not a big deal, I move the strap to the ring on the grip side. Yes, I'm one of those people who leave the strap on when its on a tripod.

I just keep the little allen key in my camera bag, so I always know where it is. It only takes a few seconds.

I use the peak slide and dont have that problem. I use the left hand ring, from the rear, and the tripod mount. This ensures no strap interfering with the shutter button or blocking any views. I also use portrait mode and again no interference from the strap.

This is my setup as well with the PD Slide on my D750. The only issue I have ever had, and it is MINOR, is that when I have a heavier lens on, the strap tends to slowly but surely get longer and longer, I'll have to cinch it up from time to time. Again, very minor issue.

Earlier today, I heard of an app called Cicada Safari. It allows you to upload photos of cicadas you find, so they can be tracked in "real time." So far, there are none reported within about 50 miles of me (Mid-Hudson Valley of NY).

I hope to find one soon though. I hear they give you their gold if you catch them! :-)

I just ordered 3 of the Xpozer systems from them this morning. I have had my eye on this system for some time, and they sent me a coupon for 30% off, so I did it. One print is color (Milky Way shot) and the other 2 are black and white. Hopefully, they turn out really nice, I'm excited for them to show up.

I was reading my online Nikon N-Photo magazine this morning, and they highlighted this gentleman. He makes some really interesting photos, so I thought I'd share:

This what?

I was agreeing with the post. Its a pretty common response online when one agrees with something that has already been stated. It allows for the person responding to give their two cents to the original post without re-typing everything.
