When I got home from our weekly firehouse drill I spotted the moon looking quite red because smoke from the wildfires out west was being carried to us on the jet stream. Because the moon was mostly behind trees (we have woods behind our house) I used my Sigma 150mm-600mm zoom hand held and found a spot that didn't have many branches in the way.
Great shot of the moon! I live in the Hudson Valley, it was definitely a strange sight to see the moon that color. The whole day was hazy from here. I can see for miles to the east, and visibility was significantly less with all the smoke. I remember last year, the same thing happened, and we could look directly at the sun until it was about 2 hours after sunrise. Almost apocalyptic.
