Rick, yes, 150mm angle of view in either case. I read the other posts and taken together I almost got a headache. Hope this helps.

I really like 1 and 3. In #1 the guitar is her child, in #3, they are the guitar.

Rent the 850 and have fun with it.
Don’t be skittish of a good thing.

Ditto. I had a 600, went to a 750, about the same layout, but also bought a 500, about the same layout as an 850. I think you’ll be successful but even more you’re going to like the 850 more.

Concept?? Interesting. Crop Factor is physics. It is a concept kinda like gravity is a concept. Try jumping off a building. You might find your concept has changed. Jeep Daddy has it right. He recognizes that a good photographer can be more than an equalizer however.

I'm seriously debating between these 2 lens and need some honest info on both of them. I value the opinion of most of the people here, so please help.

The answer to your question will vary depending on what is important to you. The answers above are all correct. The f4 is by far the better lense, but the price difference reflects that. If the quality differnce which again is substantial isn't important to you then the variable aperture lense will do. I have the f4 as well as a 16-80 2.8 to f4 on my D500 (essentially the same for DX as the 24-120 f4 is for FX but a little faster on the front end). The question is is it worth it to you.

Wow! Great work—almost Borg-like (a Star Trek TNG reference).

Wow, before I saw your response I was thinking they should have seen this before the chose the costume for 7 of 9. Great photo.

Do the 610 rather than the 600. Oil spots on the 600 was NOT rare, even though there are folks who never had the problem. I had both and there was a reason for that. If you can do the D750 do it. If not you won't feel bad about the 610.

I'm a rank amateur. I keep a lens on my camera bodies (D750, D500). I think most people do. It's not the same lens all the time but rarely is either body without one. I've never had a problem because of it.

Just wondering, Alan ... have we seen "the picture [you] took of the mosque in Dubai"? I'd like to.

Being a cowardly amateur I almost never post a picture in a public forum. You are making me brave.

Wow I want to respond to a number of you. To set the stage, 1) I am retired; 2) I dumped a D90, D7000, and D610 (amazing what oil spots on a D600 can do for you) to set myself up for the 850; BUT a week long birthday party for my wife in Southern Cal (we live in MD) as well as a trip to South Africa and Dubai burnt my stash. I can hear you weeping for me . I’ll make it worse. I said I own a 750, but I also own a D500. Now, User ID, the willingness to pay for the time waiting up to a point would always be “yes”. repleo, I agree, a pro buys based on need, and should. The rest of us don’t NEED a camera at all. We do it for fun. I certinaly do. Stroday , you are my idol (850 and 500). Feiertag, Life is short, the question is not “do you need it to do something your current gear won’t”, UNLESS YOU ARE A PRO. The question is do you want it and can you swing it financially. If the answer is yes to those 2, go for it. I can’t sing (can’t find the bucket), I can’t paint, or sculpt. I have this creative urge and a camera is my brush and my canvas. As soon as I can swing it, I’ll own that 850. I love the picture I took of the mosque in Dubai with my D750 and 24-120. As I and others said, do it for FUN. Need is not in this space, unless you are a pro.

I'm a 750 shooter too and really want that 850 or a Z7 w/ 2 card slots and better auto focus, but I'm not quite ready with the cash. This might be another way to look at it: let's say in 10 months they drop the price by $600. That's a $400 net over what you could get now. If you waited and bought and were asked then if would you pay $400 for that 10 months (or any arbitrary time) to have had the 850 for that period. What would your answer be? My answer would probably be that I would buy that time for $400, but I'm not really ready just yet.

I actually think the price will come down, but very slowly because they are going to invest all their energy in the mirrorless space. I'm pretty sure I will buy the 850 eventually because the next upgrade to the Z7 is probably going to be ridiculously expensive.

I would suggest you seek quotes from B&H and KEH. When I did that I sold most of the gear to B&H but I got a better price on one body from KEH. They send an intial quote from the information you send them and a final quote when you send them the equipment. If you are accurate the quote won't change. Mine did not. Actually happened very quickly. Good luck.

I've got a D750 and a D500. Also have 16-80, non-VR 24-70 (recent), 28-300 and a 300 F4 PF. I'm trying to get the 24-70 to give me the kind of results on the D500 I get with it on the 750. That notwithstanding I'd keep the 16-80 for traveling light and the wide-end. I also have a 24-120 which was kit with the D750 and turns out to be a really good focal length with the D500 to shoot my grandson's high school basketball games
