I watched some reviews of the Z8 on YouTube. That looks like a winner - a smaller Z9, with some advantages over it, but at a lower price. If only the price was lower.

It has Airplanes Mode. I wonder if that would work equally well for birds. Apparently the Z8 isn't available to the general public yet, but I bet it will sell out quickly.

I was informed that I could pick my Z8 up today.

It is sad. 2013 was my first experience with the rhinos. Went to South Africa with a veterinary group that was check there health out. They darted them, took blood samples and gave them a physical. My wife is the vet. I just took pictures. Now the poachers kill the rhinos with or with out a horn so they don't have to tack the ones with out a horn.

Nice shots, Grumpy, but you should do your own post. Unless specifically given permission, posting your work in another’s post is like talking over someone in a conversation.

I was a Monument Valley last weekend. Shot a couple sunrises and a valley shot.

A long time ago I couldn't find a ring light that could do what I wanted. I wanted to see the color of ones eyes and was tired of getting rid of the red eyes. So I made my own. I know I didn't answer your question but rent one or buy from someone that has a 30 day return.

My first digital camera was a Sony. 1.3 megapixel with a 3.5 floppy drive. Bought it in the early 1990.

Goto D8 and D9 in the CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU and select what you want displayed. Virtual horizon is the 4th one down in D8 and 3rd one down in D9.

Please don't provide the usual answer to what is the difference between Auto and Program modes. I understand the difference of operation, and I prefer the use of P over A for better control. I have recently "graduated" from a D7200 to a D850. The 850 has no Auto mode...no problem, I won't miss it. But I was unhappy with the color and exposure of several shots under certain conditions in P mode, so out of curiosity I performed a very simple experiment:

I grabbed my trusty 7200 and took 2 shots of in indoor still life without flash. One in Auto and the next in P mode. I expected them to be pretty much the same, but they were not. Surprisingly the shot made in Auto mode was had color and exposure much closer to the actual subject, and I think anyone looking at the two shots would agree.

So I'm left wondering why, and wondering what would need to be done in P mode to match the color accuracy of the shot made in Auto? In my mind any difference between the two should have been in exposure, but not color. seems to me that any of the several different combinations of exposure and shutter speed that I could have selected should not have any significant effect on color. Am I wrong about that?

Sounds like you need to white balance. When I am shooting I always PRE white balance. Never used AUTO white balance.

What advantages, if any, does mirrorless have over mirror? If you were going to upgrade would you go to mirrorless.

Silence is golden! One of the minor reasons I upgrade to the Z9.

Not sure what you are trying to say. In the video this guy was getting really roughed up. I have had other photographers in big cities say they have been followed and have had their cars broken into to take their gear. I’m trying to say it is something we now need to consider more than in the past as crime is increasing. People are less predictable than animals. I don’t have a natural fear of animals which could get me in trouble. I did not have to imagine what happened to the wedding photographer, I saw it!

A friend of mine son was getting married and I was asked to take pictures as a backup to the photographer that was hired. I set my D6 to 14fps, I like to make sure people don't have their eyes closed in the picture. it was the last wedding I took pictures with the D6, it sounded like a machine gun going off. I was not the reason I bought the Z9, but Z9 was my D850 and D6 combined with a little more horsepower. You can turn the sound on or off for the shutter on the Z9. I used the D6 for sports and action and the D850 for everything else. I kept the D6 because I felt it did a little better in very low light conditions.

You align the red dot to you focus point. You have much better reaction time and luck when shooting birds that are flying with the red dot because both eyes are looking at the bird and you put the red dot on the bird and fire away.

Been using an EOTECH 512 for many years. Use for sports and action where using both eyes on the action gives me better results. With the 100-400 lens zoomed in at 400 I put the red dot on object at a distance and take a pic. Checking the photo to see where the focus point is I adjust the EOTECH. The EOTECH has up, down, left and right adjustments. I take pics till the two are aligned which is 3 or 4 shots. The quickest way to align the two thou is on a tripod. I just upgraded from the 512 to the EOTECH EXPS3. It makes shooting soccer so much easier to get the good shots.
