I'll get back to my slide digitizing project also. Maybe take some long walks and shoot some landscapes too.

The OP is a competing vendor. Very bush-league post.

I predict that as Nikon slowly moves away from the DSLR market they will next eliminate the 7xxx line and leave only the 5xx line for DX DSLR cameras. They appear to be putting all of their efforts into the Mirrorless technologies but are unfortunately still woefully behind the other players in this market. We have not seen any new designs in the DX lens arena for years from Nikon. The way I see it if you are set on staying with the DX format you have two choices, the D500 or the Z5 with the lens adaptor.

We have been digitalizing slides taken to document a shoot that we did over 35 years ago. We're using my ES-2 and a Nikon 60mm D mounted on a D850. The light source is a Balcar speed light with a defusion screen in front of it. It's kind of like a Pentax Repronar on steroids. Camera's color balance is set to auto and is set to apature preferred. The camera is also tethered using C1 so the focus and exposure can be fine tuned. The results are stunning. As a test we sent one of the slides out to have have it drum scanned. The results were not as good as what we are got with the ES-2. I'm going to try this with an SB-800 next and I'm fairly confident that it will also work as well.

Probably camera body and lens belong to NPS.

I appreciate all of your help and I will go back and reshoot.

I have to second the use of a tripod. It really helps me because it makes me slow down and think about things before I press the shutter release. Please post the images that you come up with after you go back and shoot again.

If you can reshoot it try to get lower to get a perspective that people don't usually see. Another thing that you might try is to frame the rails so that they are both the same distance from the edge of the frame. Just some thoughts.

I've been using C1 for a couple of months. Bought it outright. It's tethering capabilities are great. Lightroom just doesn't cut for tethering. digicamcontrol isn't bad for tethering but it is slower than C1 and free. As mentioned above, C1's raw processing capabilities are must better than Adobe Raw. It's corrections are much more subtle than Lightroom or Photoshop. The one area that I found C1 lacking is fixing chromatic adoration. It was good a purple chromatic adoration but not green chromatic adoration. Lightroom was much better at that. The bottom line is that there is no one app does it all for great post processing. I'm keeping my subscription to Adobe and integrating C1 into my workflow.

When this place doesn't have it you know it's hard to come by. Based on the OP's experience it might be a good thing that it is rare,

It is the most incredible tone wood for acoustic guitar building. The sound is the benchmark by which all other tone woods are judged. Martin Guitars used it for years to build their legendary guitars. I hear that Cocobolo more caustic to work with.

Where did you find Brazilian Rosewood to build a table? CITIS makes it pretty much unobtainium here in the U.S. Matched back and side sets to build guitars that are documented pre CITIS go for a minimum of a thousand dollars. I'm sure that the table is beautiful. Hope you heal soon.

I use it and really like it. I use it when I do architectural images at sunset, stacking 3-5 images to come up with a final HDR image. It also works great for single images.

I seem to have taken that 'unique hardware' road, starting at the end of summer last year. In addition to this combination, I've mounted any of my digital cameras to the back of my 4x5 for another unique combination.

Digital 4x5 is really unique. Take a look at the Guess watch ads. They are shot on a Sinar view camera with a Sinar digital back. Have fun with your "new" camera. The images look great.

Why no for the 80-400? The original screw drive version had slow autofocus and was not a great lens. The newer AF-S version is outstanding. I have one that I use on a D500. Very sharp and fast autofocus.

I agree. The newer version of the 80-400mm is on the official Nikon list of lenses for the D850 and it is a gold series lens.

I am a working professional and shoot with a D850. The D850 is very demanding when it comes to sharp lenses. The lenses that I have currently in my "bag" are:

Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 G
Nikon 28mm f1.4 E
Nikon 50mm f1.8 E
Nikon 60mm f2.8 D micro
Nikon 70-200 f2.8 FL
Nikon 80-400 f4.5-5.6 G
Nikon 105mm f1.4 E
Nikon 1.4 tc III

I have also shot with the Nikon 105mm f2.8 E micro, the Nikon 45mm f2.8 PC, and an 85mm f 2.8 PC but don't own them because on the rare occasion that I need them I can borrow them from a friend.

You are shooting with a pro series body you need pro series lenses.
