I personally only tried the bundled version when I owned a Sony a6000 and didn’t form an opinion. However, I’ve heard that many Fujifilm owners swear by it.

I use Capture One and have done so for many many years. I don't subscribe but instead pay for the standalone version. I use Capture One because more than any other raw processor it supports for me a raw workflow that is 100% non-destructive and non-linearly re-editable.

I moved to C1 a year ago and only use PS for panoramics. I shoot with Sony and much prefer the color rendition in C1 and importing to sessions.

Nothing special compared to what? Its top-of-the-line pro level software with the best raw conversions available. It is primarily a raw converter/processor with a number of features that used to exist only in the realm of pixel editors. However, it is not a full-featured pixel editor like Photoshop and was never intended to be. Many raw shooters, myself included, only need a pixel editor on relatively few occasions. Before you think that I am just a Capture One fanboy, my raw converter/processor of choice is DXO Photolab Elite.

It is the premier raw conversion program.

Unlike Photoshop, you can buy a perpetual license rather than a subscription.

The stand-alone version is less expensive if you don't upgrade every year. There is no compelling reason to upgrade so long as they support your camera(s).

I’ve been using for about a year. I used LR previously. Except for the layers, at first glance the adjustment tools and the cataloging look not too dissimilar to what you find in LR. But I quickly found that is NOT the case. They are neither better or worse just different. I found switching was very frustrating for a while because I would try to do something that looked familiar to me but find it didn’t do what I expected. With patience I’ve learned more about how C1 works.

Regarding basic adjustments C1 seems to be a bit more subtle with things like contrast and clarity for example. Makes a bit harder to overcook an image. Just my guess but I think C1 is biased somewhat toward portrait photography. Other may think different!

I use it for batch processing thousands of sport images while making auto adjustments and adding styles on import. It is the fastest processor I have used and is very convenient to my workflow. On the drive home I import to a SSD and when home simply move the SSD to my desktop with all the adjustments for culling and any further editing. The colour rendition is great.

I've chosen C1 after trying almost every RAW converter out there, and have been using it almost exclusively for the last two years.

The reasons are :

a) speed. It's lighting fast, there is no "develop" module... You are always in develop, still selecting photos happens even before I release the mouse button. I've never experienced a flat of any sort

b) quality. The grindstone are to of the line, maybe only in par wit DXO

c) safe. It's the only program y found that has an extensive backup for the catalog.

d) it feels really "pro" what I mean is that it rock solid and consistent. Every edit you do results exactly as expected. It never crashed, glitched, or done strange things or artifacts

I switched 6 months ago and am still learning the finer points. I refused to upgrade LR beyond ver. 6 so with my new Z7 I needed the camera and lens support. It’s an excellent raw processor with super color rendition. As others noted it’s not a pixel painter. You can export a psd file to PS should you need to make those kind of edits.

Or you can use Affinity as I do, which is very similar to PS, but fixtures $49 one time payment, do you don't need Adobe's subscription

One more note,
f) the pseudo-pixel functions in C1 allows me to prices about 95% of the photos right in C1 without the need of a true pixel editor like PS or Affinity

I have it and use it occasionally when the mood arises. Some have said it is a better raw converter than Adobe (color and noise), however if find it inconvenient when compared to my workflow from Bridge to ACR to Photoshop. I guess its a matter of what you are used to. If I have a challenging image when my normal workflow does not produce what I am looking for, I'll try it. Sometimes better, sometimes not.

I've been using C1 for a couple of months. Bought it outright. It's tethering capabilities are great. Lightroom just doesn't cut for tethering. digicamcontrol isn't bad for tethering but it is slower than C1 and free. As mentioned above, C1's raw processing capabilities are must better than Adobe Raw. It's corrections are much more subtle than Lightroom or Photoshop. The one area that I found C1 lacking is fixing chromatic adoration. It was good a purple chromatic adoration but not green chromatic adoration. Lightroom was much better at that. The bottom line is that there is no one app does it all for great post processing. I'm keeping my subscription to Adobe and integrating C1 into my workflow.

I use it and stopped using LR and PS because it’s sharpening and noise reduction are better. Maybe more accurate to say what it does in terms of sharpening and noise reduction can be done much quicker with Capture One.
