I've been wanting to photograph the wild elk herd in Pennsylvania for some time now. Weather called for 5-8 inches of snow, so the next morning I drove over 2 hours to north central PA. When I arrived, everything seemed abandoned. Well, the projected 5-8 inches turned into 26 inches. With that much snow, I figured the elk would be bedded down in the deep forest. It took some time, but I finally found a few bulls and later a mixed herd of cows and mostly young males. Here are some of the shots from the day.

You will not be disappointed with this lens. I used the Tamron 150-600, but this lens’ images are very, very good. As CHG CANON pointed out, couple this lens with the 1.4x and you have a nice set up. Enjoy!!!

I watched it as well - two straight hours without a commercial break. What a fantastic documentary, both on President Reagan and Obama. If you have not watched it, I highly recommend it.

Lots of very good suggestions from everyone from UHH but I didn’t see one very important item - bear spray. Be sure to purchase bear spray and learn how to use it. While in the Lamar Valley area, pull in the road that leads to Slough Creek Campground. In the evening, you’ll always find people in pull offs looking for wolves in particular. This is a great spot for them.

Great photo. I too, am intrigued by these old homesteads and wonder the same kinds of things you pointed out. In our world of technology, it's tough to imagine the hardships these folks endured.

I really like your photos of the Bluebells. As someone else mentioned, they can be difficult to capture. Can you share your camera settings and whether you took your photos with a macro lens? Also, how did you capture the dark background? Thanks. Again, really nice photos. Fran

I am so sorry I forgot to answer your question. The photo was taken on the Grinnell Glacier Trail. A very strenuous hike, but well worth it.

Thanks for your feedback. I use Canon’s DPP for post processing. Would you recommend moving to Lightroom?
