The first question would be how big her budget is. What she shoots is varied and will take different lens (macro vs wildlife). Does she have good Canon glass already? If so why change boats - get a good R camera - anywhere from the RP up..

I hope you are successful but I did not find anything on BB&B (as far as I know I’ve never seen any photographic gear there even before the bankruptcy). e-bay has a bunch of junk the the best price I could find was $70 for a used SCANZA which is the $180 model.

There are two Kodak scanners. One is the self contained unit for $180 the other a cardboard unit using your phone as the camera. That one lists for $35. I assume this is the sale item. Do you have a link?

I’ve had a M1 Mac Mini with 16GB and 1 TB SSD for over a year now. It has no problems running Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, all the adobe apps , On1, and others. I am part of Photoshop and Lightroom Classic classes where people are using everything from old Mac to the newest pc. The only computer that runs faster than mine is a m2 studio.. And Zoom has no issues with an M1

It is a good product with some features Photoshop doesnt have and others Photoshop has but On1 doesn’t. It works either in a browse mode like Camera Raw and/or a catalog (database) mode like Lightroom. The raw processing is good with most of the features of Camera Raw. It’s worth a try and has a trial.

I teach Lightroom and Photoshop but On1 is my prime software.

1. Photoshop and LightRoom Classic but big learning curve
2. Affinity Photo - best value
3. Good competitor with a easier to use UI (in my opinion) On1 Raw

Bridge is not your LR catalog. It's a 'browser like' tool that navigates over your image files, or any type of file on your system. Bridge is more useful for the Luddites that refuse to use Lightroom, and only use PhotoShop & ACR.

Alas, you joined Adobe right as they made a major release while using Apple-based equipment. That's no excuse for Adobe, but they seem to know less about Apple equipment & software, than Windows-based systems. When dealing with Adobe, seek to have your multi-day issue 'escalated'. Their internal reporting numbers compel the Adobe support team to resolve these issues.

If LR worked previously on the same equipment, seek an Adobe support member that will help restore that prior LR version and keep them on the line through a successful reboot and verification.

my 2 cents - some of the features called AI (actually not AI but rather Machine Learning) are very helpful in processing photographic images faster and maybe better. If the image is significantly modified, in my opinion, it is now graphic art not photography. Where that line is crossed is very fuzzy. For instance, adding a sky or a kind of a composite is changing what the photographer shot within his camera. A purist would say that is no longer a photograph. I am a purist. I label any image is modify to have elements not in the original image as art. Unfortunately for me being an old fart most of the world doesn’t care. I started my photography career shooting sports and journalism. we were not allowed to even crop an image for journalism.

I am impressed Adobe is spearheading adding content to the metadata of images listing what has been done to it with a certification. Unfortunately ,that consortium has not be adapted even though most of the heavy hitters belong to it. This ‘AI’ push may make that happen faster but again most of the world doesn’t care and certainly the bad actors out there will create fake images without certification.

I’ve been trying all the AI chatbots and especially with the generative fill feature in the Photoshop Beta. There are a ton of videos out there showing what it can do. I decided I wanted to make a book cover for an e-book. I used ChatGPT to create the prompt then created a blank canvas in Photoshop, selected all, clicked on generative fill, pasted the chatGPT prompt and got:

The prompt was: Title: Moons of Destiny

Description:
The book cover features a powerful heroine standing before a mesmerizing backdrop of three celestial moons, symbolizing the fateful path she must navigate in a captivating sci-fi adventure.

I agree 100%. LightRoom Classic is still the better app.

you didn’t say what body you were going to use it on. I shoot Canon mirrorless and there are not AUTOFOCUS RF lens for those cameras. I have the EF (with the AE chip) 14mm MANUAL FOCUS. It is a good lens except - no filters because front of lens is very convex and it is a pretty big and heavy lens. I have neck and back issues so anything that adds weight to my bag is being looked at closely. The Canon RF lens are generally lighter than equivalent EF lens. I haven’t picked up the Rokinon in months as I bought the 16mm 1.8 RF AUTOFOCUS lens from Canon for about the same price and it takes filters and is almost a pancake lens. If you have Canon and you decide you want the Rokinon let me know.

I am running a M1 Mac Mini with latest macOS. I haven’t found anything that doesn’t work right now including some issues I had in the 2023 beta and release. I tend to see pc users having more issues especially around graphics cards. On1 has a document which shows the minimum hardware and software requirements.

It has a number of new features plus it was delivered early and provides more than what they promised. I wish more software vendors followed the same workflow. Only Adobe and Affinity Photo are ones that do as well.

There is some special pricing right now on the release at On1.com
