I know. Sorry. I did a reply and hit send. Never posted. Tried again and again never posted. I thought it did not go through.
If at first you don't succeed, stop stop stop and wait for the website to catch up. :D
You are not the first and will not be the last. Thanks for the levity.

I'm just lucky that I'm a camera nerd AND a computer nerd. Or maybe not lucky - I just had to remove a virus from a co-worker's laptop this morning.
You are lucky.
Nowadays, with digital cameras, post processing of images, archiving, etc., computer literacy is virtually a prerequisite to being serious about photography.

I do agree; but there are a couple or two folks ok maybe a lot more then two! On this site and been here more then a year and want ready answer's all the time and they do have owners manuals and I'd bet other books if they just open up once in awhile and look for the answer to their questions my goodness how hard is that to do?????
It is not hard at all.
However, perhaps they are technically challenged, intimidated by manuals or perhaps just lazy, but as long as we continue to enable them, they will not take the initiative to do some basic homework first.

By always answering the same and very basic questions for the same members, we enable them to become takers who are rarely able to help others as a result.
Use initial tolerance, and if they frequently post, ignoring them is better than complaining or flaming.

But I suspect the majority do NOT fall into this category, and they really need help to be pointed in the right direction.

I gladly help anyone who seems sincere and is seeking some guidance. That is what UHH is all about.

here's how I solve the problem.................I buy ONLY from B&H..............the ONLY exception is when I buy "made in the U.S." from Really Right Stuff in San Luis Obispo
I guess I'm guilty of the same.
I'm spoiled by such flawless service and support provided by both companies (B&H & RRS), that I rarely shop elsewhere (except for an occasional foray on Amazon because of their stellar return policies.)

The "ads" you see here are NOT sponsored or reviewed by UHH.
They are simply run by Google ads and are determined by YOUR searches. NONE of them have be specifically approved by UHH, so beware!!

Use an AD BLOCKER and most of them will disappear.
I believe this is true. Good response!

Just saying that answering questions is sort of what the forum is about. I get upset when someone sugests that anyone should not ask a particular type of question. Esspecially when they have asked very similar questions.
Good point.
However, there is also something to be said for doing a little homework before asking for someone's help.

This is a common "problem" on other many other forums as well; whether it be auto repair, flying or videography.

Then again, we were all rank newbies once, so a little tolerance and understanding is the best approach if you elect to offer an answer.
Otherwise, just be polite and move on to the next post.

wow...that's a lotta help...

Quick update on the serious side:
My current in-use cameras are also my favorites. I've shelved my medium format Pentaxs - too bulky for many tasks and too expensive for just lugging around.

I currently use 2 DSLRs; one for wide angle (full frame sensor, Canon 5D Mk3) and one for telephoto (APS-C sensor, Canon 7D Mk2). (That combo optimizes the wide/tele spectrum for me.) When on a shoot they are both with me (along with a spare 5D Mk2 body).

But when just hiking, cruising, walking around, family gatherings, I have come to really like the Sony RX1000 III.
I am NOT and P&S fan, but this model is making me a convert.

The Sony RX1000 III is a pretty amazing P&S that seems to do most everything I need for casual shooting. It has both intelligent auto modes while offering full manual control of aperture, shutter speed, ISO and focus. Megapixel and RAW files are more than adequate, and JPEG and RAW can be taken concurrently.

Popular "gimmicks" such as in-camera auto HDR and stitched panoramas are also offered.
It is more expensive than some consumer lever DSLRs ($800), but with the addition of a circular polarizer and ND filter, I'm happy most of the time.

I've also resigned myself that there is no "best camera;" there is just the one that you are comfortable enough with that it can do most if not everything you want it to do well.

Time to shoot the remaining fall colors as a cold snap is due here tomorrow.

I had the same problem....hoping someone on here might know a "fix" for it.
I really don't want to buy another program.
I use QuickTime Pro, as do many other photographers. Easy, simple and yields decent results for most purposes.

Using LR for a time lapse video is problematical at best as that is not what it was designed to do.

I think back then it was a krylon flat black cardboard lens hood as an option ;)

LOL! Yes, I have to admit, I recall that well.
And they were not inexpensive either.
Later on we made our own out of black FoamCore or GatorBoard "borrowed" from marketing and used the OEM cardboard as templates.
We used black gaffers tape to hold it together and some flat black spray paint for when black FoamCore was not "available" from marketing.
Good memories. Thanks.

This was the era of the Direct View Storage Tube for graphics, a 19" display was quite a thing in the the 1970s / 1980s, not exactly a desktop thing....
Did it have a plastic or aluminum lens hood?

Not taking a company position here, but the whole IT world is in significant transition. Microsoft is under new leadership with Satya Nadella and many things are changing. The Microsoft of the future needs to be somewhat different from the Microsoft of the past.

We can depend upon change, and that change will have different effects upon different people, as it will upon Microsoft and the overall industry.

Just look at changes with a degree of caution, and make a personal decision, hopefully a well researched one, as to which changes you wish to pursue, and how they will impact your lives.

Good luck
