What if I shoot my FF D700 in crop mode? Does the camera use the full sensor and downsize that electronically, or actually electronically downsize the sensor?
Upgrading from a 3000 series to a 5000 series is not a significant upgrade. A 7000 series would be an upgrade...

Putting a DX lens On a DX camera there is no factor ...DX to DX... now FX to DX, yes multiply by 1.5... and DX to FX you get a not so nice vignette...
I have the 24-85 f3.5-4.5G ED VR and it is a joy to use... great photos...price varies, but within $100...
I believe when it came out the D700 was a $3000 camera, I own both the D300 and D700 and I love the results I get with either one... but I'm a 68 year old rookie...
I went the other way; bought the D700 first and then added the D300. They compliment each other as well as my Sony a7. I figure I'm set with Nikons, still have GAS for Sony a7rII.
When I'm tired I use three p&s: Nikon S900, Lumix zs40, and Sony WX350... they all work well...
I used to hunt from a blind and have several, and (although they are not cheap) there are silent revolving chairs you can also purchase. Then sit in the blind, open the windows and swing around 360 degrees... thanks for the topic, I never thought about using it for hunting with a camera...

Buy a Sony crop sensor camera and you will be able to adapt your Nikon lenses(make sure that the camera you buy has the "shoot w/o lens option); I have an a7 and adapt both Nikon and Canon FD, EFS, and EF lenses with excellent results...
I use the rule of thirds, but I violate it often if the foreground or background adds or detracts from the subject, with emphasis on adds... and it's not set in stone... that is what guide means...
I wear bifocals and use the upper for camera work, never the lower.. Only time is when I tie flies or something similar.
I have the Tokina AT-XPRO Macro 100 F2.8 D and this is a magnificent lens. It is wonderful for anything you want to use it for, and it produces smiles...
