I agree that Apple products are overpriced and have always been overpriced. I've never owned one, but I did have a company issued iPhone that functioned well from the hardware standpoint. It was the constant OS updates that caused repeated problems with some of the company's apps on the phone.

I think that all of he computer hardware made in China is probably about at the same quality level. (Don't have proof, so there is no need to argue about it.) It's "good enough" most of the time. Support may vary from company to company.

The real issue is whether these products could be made in the US. The answer is obviously yes, but prices would go through the roof. Again, that's the real issue, and the companies who put their names on the products know it, which is why we're in this mess in the first place.

The real problem is no one in the USA cares about the china men and women who work for subsistence wages with a socialist/communist government that oppresses its working class people while parading the best of it's people in front of the world just to impress the rest of the world (ie. their musicians and dancers etc. and even their pandas that people find adorable). A true world government would not let this happen but the socialists in the USA want the best of the oppressed socialised like china for cheap labor plus the benefits of the USA living. You cannot have both and be fair to all in the world. We human beings are not ready yet for a one world government. One day maybe when everyone is equal in pay and has proper housing for all we might be ready until then each country should be on its own to grow and become it's best it can be.

The object of the tariffs is to discourage US companies from moving manufacturing and jobs out of the US specially to China which we have long been paying for their economy and military with US $$ by allowing large US companies to move their manufacturing there. I worked in freight forwarding for 20 years in San Diego and when Qualcomm & Kyocera moved their manufacturing overseas it killed jobs (mine included) and the San Diego economy as well. there has to be equity in trade with other countries. We cannot keep shipping our money overseas to foreign countries on a one way ticket. The trade deficit has killed this country for decades specially in the Jobs sector. This is the first administration in a very long time that is trying to fix that problem. It's about time someone is at least trying.

Kind of like this shot. Butterfly nicely placed too. The fussy around top of the butterfly reminds me of a wash in water color to me it detracts from the rest of the shot. Nice shot.

Picked up a hitch-hiker. Seemed like a nice guy.

After a few miles, he asked me if I wasn't afraid that he might be a serial killer?

Told him that the odds of two serial killers being in the same car were extremely unlikely.

He got off at the next stop.

Too bad he was let go of....hehe

I thank every one for their answers. I now have a better understanding of the monitor on camera. The manual seems to not cover it as well as you all have. I still do not understand fully the histogram if possible could you give me a link that might help? As for chimping comments I do photography to make money just like I did in film days. I appreciate that now I can see my shots right away rather than waiting two weeks to see how the wedding turned out and figure out what I could do better two weeks after I shot the wedding. I will always chimp the shot I do know the camera screen is low resolution and now know more of what to look for in the camera's monitor once I better understand the histogram. The assignment last night was the usual choir event I run into so once I do the capture and file work to send it to the studio I may post one shot here that shows how difficult the lighting can be for even a seasoned pro as the lighting changes at least 5 times during a song in both color and brightness. Which is why I chimp it as often as possible. As for chimping I guess no one out there remembers the use of Polaroids during a shoot. They had Polaroid backs for Hasselblads and most 2 1/4 cameras as well as the 4x5 and 5X7 view cameras. One polaroid could save a studio a lot of time and money when it came to proper light control and color control as not all colors photographed the same when it came to bridesmaids gowns.

I have noticed a great difference between the camera back view and when I bring the shots up on my monitors. Which happens using my D7200 at low light levels (such as theatre performances or sports). The shots on the monitors are in need of more exposure but while viewing them in camera during the shoot they appear normal. Might this effect come from viewing the shot in camera in the dark? Camera back is set to normal brightness. Monitors are calibrated using Spyder 5 pro. When I view in normal room light the shots also appear normal in camera back. Is there a method I missed in the camera manual as to calibrating the camera back? in theatres I shoot for an ISO that will allow my lenses plenty of light to give good flesh tones. Basically like in film days of slides I shoot for bright areas to be normal tones so as not to wash out the whites and take what I get in the blacks. I can fix the shots in photoshop but I would prefer to get it right in camera first.

Took me a bit of looking around, but I did learn that it was browser controlled. Once I fixed that, it now works again. I use Chrome as my main browser.

Horned Toad

Nice shot although the background has a bit of bright highlights in it. Possibly a little work in photoshop would tone them down a bit. I feel the brightness competes with the lizard or toad. I climbed the hills behind the barracks when I was in 29 Palms Calif. Marines in '69 (electronics radar school). All I ever saw while doing what is now considered extreme climbing is just one of those horney toads. Big old diamond back almost got me walking back to the barracks across open sand but never found one in the rocks while climbing.

Restarting computer no help.
LR is only program running. Mac has 34 GB RAM.

The Solution
I forced a rebuild of the previews for the images in question and the lines were cleared up. So it seems to be an import glitch that has nothing to do with the camera.

Thanks for the responses.

Thanks for letting us know your solution. Next time though please let us know it is a MAC and not Windows. I work with Windows and still do but I have worked with MAC and find MAC can be just as frustrating as Windows.

I have never done it the way you explain it.
I open Elements then select open from the menu then go to the folder the photo is in and select it then open.
Never tried from just clicking on the photo.

That's the right way to open it as far as I know. Sometimes I will right click an image and if and only if elements is assigned by the computer as always open with elements (That Box usually says open and share with or open set as desktop as the first two lines in the box) then elements will open and if it doesn't open it usually means my computer needs a reboot due to windows updates. One day we shall get a version of windows that needs no updating. Problem is we may all be resting in our graves when that happens.

Sorry to say this...too out of focus in general for my tastes. It also needs some contrast. Maybe a darker background too.

Next thing I might try is rebooting your computer - to reset the graphics system.
Or maybe turn off (temporarily) "use graphics hardware" in Lightroom.
It could be a rendering problem and nothing to do with the capture.
That the export is clean makes me hope for this outcome.

To add to this you may have too many open programs that tax your display capabilities when Light room comes up. Seems since windows 10 and cell phones using apps that most everyone never notices that they never ever close a single program. My upstairs neighbor is good for this as she never closes anything on her tablet and when I trouble shoot it I close everything and reboot and her problems seem to go away. One can run out of ram keeping a lot of programs open.

I've got GAS! I don't have big bucks to spend, but I'm starting to think that something like the D3300 would give me sharper images than I can get with my 3100. Now that I've started looking, other used Nikons in the under five hundred dollar range are clouding the issue. Does anyone have any advice on what would give me the most bang for my limited bucks? Since I have a number of Nikon compatible lenses I am not looking to change brands.

You can find the D7200 which is a good move upward from the D3100 for around $850. Possibly with a kit lens on it. Th D7200 is much better by far than the D3300 plus you get an ISO available at 25600 while the D3300 tops out at 6400 I think. Also you have two card slots in the D7200. Since we experience card failure from time to time you can set one card to backup the first card or you can shoot raw on one and jpeg on the other. My D7200's have both been through the rain at a football games and soccer matches. They are still ticking as Nikon said they would. I shoot sometimes thousands of shots a week. Maybe a lot more than that. I mean I have shot a few thousand in a day.

I going to jump into this conversation because that's what I do. In the film days ISO 6400 was extremely high and required special film developing chemicals for that speed. With modern digital camera's a ISO on 6400 is not that bad.
My D500 can handle this nicely. I have even gone to 12800 commonly in the morning light for birds in flight. My D5 can go to a much higher ISO without issue.

I used the same developer for all ISO in film days as did most labs with Black and White. Unless you processed your own or had custom processing using the special developers you mention chances were that D76 with it's accompanied rejuvenator was what your film was processed in no matter what the ISO of your film. I have had color film back then as well as color slides processed 3 stops pushed when it just had to be done. The push processing was what caused the most grain to appear in film days.
