Let's say I have a picture on my desktop, and I want to open in in Elements. If I double click the jpeg, Elements opens, but does not display the pic. I have to drag the pic into the program. Same as when I am using One 1 and I click "edit with" Elements, the program opens, but does not open the pic.
Can anyone help me solve this inconvenience? Thanks in advance.

I have never done it the way you explain it.
I open Elements then select open from the menu then go to the folder the photo is in and select it then open.
Never tried from just clicking on the photo.

If I right click an image and select 'open with elements' it opens the program and puts a thumbnail in the Photo bin. There may be something in preferences that would open the image fully.

You can right-click a photo, and choose "open with..." or set up default apps that will open the file in your preferred software when you just double-click it.

But something isn't making sense with the OP's description right this second Oh, and Bill_de might have hit on it!

To the OP: have you tried with photos that are stored in locations other than desktop? Such as from File Manager?

Here's one warning note I found: There may be instances when Photoshop Elements cannot determine the correct format of a file. For example, transferring a file between Mac OSĀ® and Windows can cause the format to be mislabeled. In such cases, you must specify the correct format in which to open the file.

Mine opens fully in the edit space, but I can't find where to set that preference.

I'm on a tablet right now, but I'll check later if it's not resolved.

I have PS Elements 12 and if I right click a photo and use open with and choose PSE12 it opens it, not sure what could be causing your issue.

Ok
If just looking at the photos I just click on them and they open instantly in the viewer. No waiting for the program.
You have made good suggestions.

That's why it's a good idea to set up default preferences for opening each file type (it's in Settings - Apps - Default apps). I like FastStone Image Viewer as my go-to for a simple and quick look-see of jpg's. But I have PSE 2018 as default to open psd files.

But back to the OP's specific issue, it would be good to know if he can see the image down in the photo bin. Then we can get Bill onto the task of finding out how to change that preference

Sorry for taking so long to reply, but I have been on the phone with Social Security... Anyway, no, it does not open in the photo bin. If I double click or right click and click on with, either way it will open the Elements program, but I still have to drag the pic into the window.

Bizarre.

More questions:
1. Do you have any other photo file types you can test? a raw, tif, or even a psd you've created after editing in PSE?

2. Have you tried from locations other than desktop?

3. Is your purpose to edit, or just view the image?

4. Is your first view the editing workspace, or are you seeing the intro page that offers you the choice of the Organizer or the Editor?

1. It happens with all file types.
2. Yes, I have tried from all file locations.
3. The purpose is to view, possibly edit and print.
4. First view is the editing workspace.
Thanks

I'm at a loss. Guess I'll just have to repeat "bizarre" and hope someone else comes along who has experienced this. Best of luck!
