Have you used the 70-200 that you have? Experiment with different ISOs and speeds to get a better feel for what you want. The tc isn't worth the increased f stop. A collapsed mono works very well as a brace to help steady the camera. Not meant to be nasty, but if the weight difference is only 1#, then go with the good glass. Unless you have a severe disability, 1# doesn't make that much, if any difference. When I went to the 2.8 lens I never noticed the additional weight.
Good luck

Lighting in ice arenas is on the white side, while gyms can be incandescent or florescent, or a combination of both. No filter in arenas, 70-200 2.8, 1/500, and ISO at 800. Only shot in one gym so I knew the lights and had the proper filter. the 70-200, 1/500, or 1/250, and ISO 800 or 1600. Gyms are harder, so shoot a lot because you'll discard a lot.

Agree with speters, that it looks like something that would be found in Mexico. Also agree with everyone that while it is fun, it is too busy. Thanks for posting those pic.

Instead of luggage tags on zipper pulls, I use zip ties. Small, light and still very visible. Take a multi tool with a knife, but put it in your checked baggage. Make a list of what you want to take (or lay out the gear), then pack only half of it!
Have a great trip.

Too great for the kids, but what plans did they have for their return? Or did they have a longer stay planned in DC?

Thanks Chippy, Now I get it, an electric powered flat bed. I can see the bottles in the wire crates jiggling as the truck rolls down the street. Great description.
There were 2 milk companies in my city in the early to mid 50s. Our milk was delivered by horse drawn wagons, the other company got gas trucks after WW2. "our" company got them about 55-56. By the early 60s the milk in stores was cheaper then home delivery. A way of lif has disappeared.

Mike Dent, Belle Isle in the Detroit River just NE a few mile from downtown Detroit. Many parks in the area. Drive an hour north to Frankenmuth. Great small city and lots of color. Also large, year around Christmas Store, Bronners and great places to eat.
Good luck and enjoy.

The age old argument about a filter for protection. Sand, dust, dirt, rain, snow, and who knows what, can be blown or thrown onto a filter, even with a hood. Filters are easier and cheaper to clean than a lens. Pay one time for a pro lens cleaning and a filter will stay on your lens. Just my 2 1/2 cents worth.
