I would have called it Abstract Black on Black.

Sorry, looks like you already used Black on Black

I like the first one best.
Have you tried any Milky Way shots? Today and tomorrow should be good nights for it if you know where to point your camera. Get a phone app like Photopills to tell you the time direction (Azimuth) and height (Elevation) for best shot at your location. Depending on how much 'dark sky' you have you may not be able see it with the naked eye. Use the compass and a level app to set the camera up on your tripod and shoot.

I've upgraded from a Canon Rebel to a Canon 6D, with a 24 to 70mm f2.8 L. Pretty nice lens.
But for many situations the Rebel gave me better results. It has a circular polorizer. The new lens will accept an 82mm filter.
Any suggestions on a polorizer brand. Cost vs quality? Thanks

Another vote for Breakthrough. Excellent quality. Also, I like that the ring has a knurled edge which makes it easier to rotate the filter while the lens hood is on.

For a lower priced alternative look at the filters from Urth.co. I hadn't heard of them until recently and was persuaded by the reviews I came across to give them a try. I didn't try their CPL, but I have been very impressed with the quality of their ND filters - at about half the price of Breakthrough or B+W

With the mirror-less system does one totally depend on the built in auto focus for all focusing, or can one focus using the LCD viewing screen, similarly to the penta-prism finder? Can you see the image well enough to focus sharply with it? .

I don't use the LCD screen much for manual focusing, but the Electronic Viewfinders (EVF) are very good. Most (if not all) mirrorless offer a 'focus assist' ability that will enlarge the image in the EVF by 100% - 200% so you can get the focus pin sharp in the viewfinder. They also have a live focus 'peaking' feature which can be used to illustrate the depth of field in the viewfinder. However, the focusing on the newer mirrorless is so good you may rarely need to manual focus. 'Eye' focus or 'Animal Eye' focus will automatically focus right onto the eye of your subject instantaneously and with a high rate of success.
A benefit with mirrorless that is not often mentioned, is that once you have the diopter adjusted to your eyesight, you can review your shots and call up all of the menus and adjust settings in the viewfinder (EVF) without having to mess with reading glasses to 'chimp' to the LCD screen.

If it not overcast or there is no open shade, wait until evening. If you have to shoot in mid-day open sun, fill flash may be your best option, but you need to get the hang of it beforehand.

Does anyone have experience with using either a 20mm 2.8 or 24mm 2.8 canon lens on a Canon 1.6 camera.
Is it worth getting a wide angle prime lens to use on a crop body or just use a wide angel zoom? I know from experience that usually a prime lens gives you a better capture but with wide angle does it also work out that way?
I have a Canon 10-18 but I was thinking about investing in a 20mm or 24mm 2.8 prime. But if I would not see a significant difference in picture quality it might not be worth the money.
Any thoughts appreciated.

One of the things that distinguishes great lenses (ie expensive) lenses from other lenses is how they perform in the corners and edges of the frame. Since the crop sensor will be cropping off the edges of the image, there is no (or not much) point in paying a premium for the edge performance of a high end FF lens over a middle of the road model.

Is it likely that Nikon mirrorless cameras will catch up with the capabilities and quality of top end Sony mirrorless cameras? As someone with a bunch of Nikon lenses - it’s daunting and expensive to consider a shift to Sony. I shoot mostly wildlife and birds in flight so high FPS and good performance tracking capabilities are important.

Nikon will catch up to the current Sony’s - eventually! By then, Sony will be even better and you will be in the same dilemma.

Not happy with results. In general, washed-out skies, colors just not true. For example, shots yesterday while kayaking under a blue sky turned out as shown. Aperture Mode F8, Auto WB, Auto ISO, Exposure 0.0. Contrasted with photos taken with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which produced awesome color and clarity. This has been a problem I have had with this camera since purchasing it 6 months ago. To emphasize, the sky was, in reality, blue! Ideas??

Just dial down the Exposure Compensation until you get it to look the way you want it in the EVF. That's what EC is there for.

My iMac died. It was almost 10 years old. I'm stuck on a laptop today. I want a new desk top. I'm not married to Apple or Windows (the laptop). I'd like to be all-in under $2500, but I'm flexible if the marginal cost above 2.5k adds significant value. As of this minute, I'm looking at getting a 4k display, but I've noticed that QHD is also available in a $500 or so monitor. My questions: 1) is there a resolution limit that above that limit will not be noticeable? 2) Is there a monitor size/aspect ratio limitation in PP software (I have a bunch on top of PS/LR). 3) Do I go iMac just to get the Retina display even if the memory limitations and graphic cards are not as "turbo" as the Windows? (for the same money)

I have let technology run off and leave me and I'd appreciate any opinions or recommendations anyone might offer. Thanks.

I was out with one of my Fuji mirrorless bodies today when the sun was very bright. I found it very very difficult to see the EVF. I’m not sure if it would’ve helped to go into full manual and turn off preview exposure, but it was just a cookout and I only wanted to snapshoot, and as I said I don’t know if it would’ve helped to go into manual mode or not. I’m sure I’m not the first one to experience this. What solutions would you suggest? I found myself wishing I had taken my DSLR.

Thanks!

Were you wearing glasses when looking through the EVF? Is so the gap between your face and the viewfinder may have been allowing the bright light to wash out the view. Try adjusting the diopter on the eyepiece so you can see without your glasses.

If I was some sort of celebrity staying at a fancy hotel, I wouldn't want want someone with an A9 and a 600mm lens wandering around the grounds. In fact, I don't think I would be comfortable about it even though I am not a celebrity.

Looking to replace my first tripod which was inexpensive and heavy and not as stable as I would like. The Sirui T-1204SK Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with G-10KX Ball Head is moderately priced and considerable lighter. No photography stores with in a reasonable distance of Bismarck ND so I'm hoping that someone may have experience with this tripod or a similar one from Sirui.
Other suggestions in the $150-250 range would be appreciated.
