Another option is for it to be hidden to guests and unsubscribed by default for members.

Or not.

It occurred to me shortly after that it could be a physical problem with the slot. I'd edit my original comment but I don't seem to be able to.

Have you tried setting it back to factory defaults?

If it does it with multiple SD cards, then it has to be something in the camera settings.

Do you by any chance have the lock switch engaged on the SD card?

That's not what I see. If I click on Home I don't see Main Photography Discussion anywhere. I have to click All Topics to find it.

It sounds like you're not subscribed to the Main Photography Discussion section. Home only shows sections you're subscribed to.

If anyone doesn't want to see the section, they could choose not to subscribe in the first place. Another forum I'm on does it that way. I believe the other forum only shows that section for logged in members.

Or is Adobe setting it up to where they have you so locked into using their programs that in another year they can jump the price about 800% and say "Use it or lose it."?

And if they did, I'd just move to Capture One and import my existing Lightroom catalog and keep on working.

Every CR2 file is not the same. If it were, people with Lightroom 1 could open CR2 files created by a brand new Canon.
From Picasa Resources - RAW Support:
... a .CR2 raw from a Canon 20d is not at all the same as a .CR2 raw from a Canon 5D, or the latest Rebel. They all have the .CR2 extension. But they're incompatible and different. The same is true for the RAWs of other camera makers.

It's more likely that Picasa doesn't support the G9X since it's relatively new.

Is Adobe getting richer or is it passing on the savings to the subscribers?

I believe the upgrade price for Photoshop used to be $650. Lightroom is $80. It would take over 6 years of monthly payments before you'd pay more than just standalone versions.

It also means that the software is distributed over the Internet and not by a CD or DVD, enticing you to store your work in the cloud, and sharing programs and pictures on multiple devices including mobile.

A lot of software is no longer distributed on physical disks. Ever use a browser other than the one your computer came with?
You are not enticed to store anything in the cloud. All my images are kept on local external drives.

Whatever happened to Seattle Film Works?

According to Wikipedia: Seattle FilmWorks was renamed PhotoWorks.com. In 2000, six plaintiffs took legal action against PhotoWorks at King County Superior Court, Seattle. The action alleged that FilmWorks had engaged in deceptive practices as its film could only be developed by the company and that 'free' rolls of film were actually charged for. The company settled the claims out-of-court, and promised to give 900,000 free rolls of C-41 film to its customers within one year and 300,000 rolls to customers that did not qualify as part of the first group but who requested a roll in the following six months. PhotoWorks also agreed to stop claiming its film could only be developed by PhotoWorks. In 2001, PhotoWorks operated 35 retail outlets, but began closing them as it concentrated upon its mail order and internet business. By August 2003, only eight of these outlets remained when the company announced that these would be closed by the end of September 2003. PhotoWorks discontinued all film processing in 2010 after it was purchased by American Greetings. PhotoWorks ceased operations in all forms in early 2011 and sold its customer list to Shutterfly.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the sizes listed do not have the same ratio. An image which fits 20x30 without any cropping would need to be cropped in order to print 30x40.

Images need to be imported into Lightroom for it to see them. It sounds like you're just dropping images in folders without importing. Also, all file renaming, moving or deleting need to be done inside Lightroom.
