Thank you a6k! The File > Export with Presets was a critical step that I was missing. Indeed the "Cancel" and "Apply" buttons do show up when you take this path. Too bad the back-and-forth Luminar email support tag game did not reveal this simple revelation!

You state above, "and then I properly installed LR in Luminar." When I attempted to do this it was greyed out and indicated that I must first install LR, which of course it already is. I am wondering if the Luminar software is not yet recognizing the recent product name shift to LR Classic CC? How did you get past this? Thanks again!

Don`t ignore the preponderance of negative reviews and that little voice inside your head. This latest version of this camera fell so short on features in so many areas. Hats off to Canon for FINALLY offering an articulating screen on a full frame camera. Beyond that, Canon should be embarrassed over just how many feature upgrades they held back.

Review/compare the 80D. Very similar camera for less money. Good luck!

I can't comment on their phone support but my experience with their email support was very good.

I think the problem that the OP is having is just an insistence on doing things a certain way. I hope I'm not being unkind but the problem is just not there. What is there is the user's approach not matching the software designer's approach. YMMV.

a6k - While I appreciate your suggestions for saving a file, you have missed the original point. The point was, most Luminar users have a "Save Changes" button/option while others like myself do not with the version of Luminar we received. I believe this is probably due to me purchasing Luminar from a third party vendor authorized by MacPhun, rather than directly from MacPhun.

Irregardless, I was never able to resolve this issue with Luminar Support using the back-and-forth email tag that is all Luminar offers. In my opinion and experience, you cannot use "email support" and "very good" in the same sentence! And it is no surprise that you cannot comment on their phone support because it does not exist.

I do not feel you are being unkind but rather attempting to be helpful, but with all due respect you are simply not fully informed. But thanks for the suggestions.

Welcome to my world!

I am half tempted to order the soon to be released Luminar 2018 because I do see myself using this software. And then I come to senses and remember they effectively have ZERO technical support. No thank you, I will stick with Adobe.

What is the fatal flaw in Luminar that you have found?

Blackest,

The fatal flaw with my Luminar software is that it does not have a "Save Changes" button/option when using it as a stand alone or plug-in.

I heard that this might be attributable to not buying the software directly from McPhun but rather from a third party vendor that was authorized to sell it. Who knows. All Luminar Support wanted to blame it on was Lightroom preference settings. Got tired of the useless back-and-forth emails and simply gave up.

Program looked promising, but I simply do not waste my time with supportless software. Life is just too darn short!

As you have ruled out photoshop have a look at DxO, Luminar, On1.

I cannot speak to DxO or On1, but I would stay away from Luminar as their technical support SUCKS! I bought the software, which has a fatal flaw that renders the software useless, and their email only tag support could not fix the issue. It sits on my computer unusable!

I could not agree more with this article. Canon finally gave non-professional users an articulating screen on a full frame camera (only about 10 years later than they should have) but fell so short on upgrade features that I have no doubt it will be an epic fail. I just hope Canon will not blame their upgrade failings on the articulating screen and not include it on future FF offerings.

With that said, I am amazed to see numerous Canon robot users obviously programmed just to buy the latest camera release. Come on people, look at the overwhelmingly lacking features and initial picture quality reviews! Send Canon a message by not buying into their self serving marketing policy rather than showing their loyal user appreciation by giving us decent feature upgrades, at least equivalent to lower priced and quality cameras in their own lineup!

My two cents worth, keep the change!

One additional thing to consider is technical support after purchase. I do not have any first hand experience/knowledge with ON1, but Luminar, like many other start up software companies has no phone support. They only have email support which is very frustrating and most times, at least for me, results in no resolution to my issues. All I have ever received are partial/cryptic answers to my questions that require additional questions and more waiting time for a response, which is usually days in coming.

Case-in-point, I currently have a version of Luminar that does not display the "Apply/Save Changes" buttons needed to save your changes back to LR when using Luminar as a plugin. I was never able to rectify this issue with McPhun Support, so this program is virtually useless to me.

Regarding your comment, "I do own a Lightroom version on my Mac, but that does not help with the PC since it is not transferable.", you may want to check with Adobe on that as I do not believe that to be accurate. I believe you are able to download to several computers, and they do not all have to have the same operating system.

My two cents worth, keep the change!

Only God can help Adobe PS and LR...

Well, only God can help you if you need technical support with Luminar, because Macphun won't!

They are another in a long line of software companies that put their products out there, but only provide cryptic email support that only proves to frustrate the user and almost never resolves the issue.

If I were a Windows user I would not touch this product with a 10 foot pole until they work the bugs out, and probably not even then knowing what I know now!

I will take Adobe and their excellent phone support any and every day!

My two cents worth, keep the change!

Update: I opened a photo in Lightroom, made a few small changes, then I chose Photo:Edit In...:Luminar... I then saw the "Cancel" and "Apply" buttons in the UPPER LEFT part of Luminar's window.

Thanks Fred. I know that is what I am suppose to be getting, but see my screen shot for what I am getting.

I hope my screen shot is good enough resolution to see? In case it is not, rather than the "Cancel" and "Apply" options what I have next to the three colored dots in the upper left corner is a folder icon (Open Image), a multiple file icon (Batch Processing), and an upload icon (Share Image).

Driving me bonkers!

I just fired up my copy of Luminar (latest version: "Neptune: v1.2.0 (4229)"). From my viewing, and from reading the manual (https://macphun.com/luminar/user-manual/user-interface), there is no Apply or Save Changes button on the interface (upper right corner or otherwise). As I apply (or remove) filters and affects, the changes are drawn to the image onscreen. When I am happy with the results, I can Save or Export from the File menu. What am I missing here?

I am not sure you are missing anything if that works for you.

However, the tutorials on the MacPhun website definitely indicate an "Apply" button which saves your changes back to LR. I have tried using just the "Save" option, but this does not save my changes back to LR. I have to physically re-import the file back into LR to see the changes made in Luminar.

Perhaps I am missing something, but this has been my experience thus far. Could be user error as I do not claim to be a computer geek, but I do not think so in this case?

I suspect a preferences file has gotten corrupted, or some file didn't update properly. I've found that it's often easier and faster to delete the app completely (I use AppCleaner - free from FreeMacSoft, but there are several "deep cleaning" app deletion programs) and re-install. Yes, I have to re-enter my license key, and re-set settings, but this is often faster than the "telephone tag" experience you're reporting.

Yes, I am on an iMac 27.

I actually did delete and reinstall the Luminar software already, but did not use a cleaning app. May try that if no better option is offered. Thanks!

Thank you, but I have no "Apply," "Save Changes," or anything similar to those anywhere on the top or side tool bars.

I have tried making adjustments, different workspaces, adding layers, etc. Never get an option to save my edits. All I can do is save the file and then re-import to LR.

Anyone have this problem? I have contacted MacPhun Support, but they are proving to be another in a long line of companies that do not provide phone support. I am getting tired of the endless back-and-forth email communication that is coming no closer to a resolution.

My problem is I am getting no "Apply" button whether I am using Luminar as a stand-alone processor to as a plug-in to Lightroom CC. This suggests a Luminar software issue to me, but MacPhun Support keeps trying to get me to change my LR preferences in External Editing to "Custom" for Preset (which the dropdown selections do not include?) and Application to "Not specified" (which I have no control over).

Can anyone here offer any corrective suggestions? Thank you!

I will add one more benefit to the flip screen. To remove sun glare on the LCD when the sun is at your back or even over head. With a fixed screen you need to either cup your hand around the screen to see it or reposition your setup. With a flip screen no problem, just change the angle of the screen.

This topic reminds me of when automatic garage door openers became available. The "old-school" ney-sayers said "I don't need no stinking garage door opener, if I need the garage open I will get out of the car and open it!" Who doesn't have a garage door opener these days?

Unless you shoot in arctic or rain forest conditions on a regular basis, there is no reason not to have a flip screen. The vast majority of users are starting to realize this, I just wish the major camera manufacturers would pull their heads out of their proverbial you-know-whats and realize it! My two cents worth, keep the change!
