Graybeard: I'm with you on this one. Great idea for those for whom it's important. For those for whom it is not, that's ok too. Keep us posted.

Thanks. I don't know why so many consider it a bad idea. Consolidate photos from several SD cards to one, and use that card to display images on TV using cameras slide projection feature. If your folders are properly named (according to Canon's rules) and ditto the images inside the folder, one simple copy and paste and you are ready to go!! My detractors seem to fall into 2 groups. 1. Those who don't even look at their images on anything more than the camera LCD or a small computer monitor. (So why are they even responding)? or 2. Those who use a more complex system and don't like seeing a more convenient way of doing things. (Why invest in USB drives if you don't need them)? But regardless, if you like another way better, use it. It doesn't make my way worse, nor does it require the many cheap shots thrown my way. But that probably goes with forums like this. Thanks for your response.

There have been people who have received the Nobel Peace prize simply because they exist, so Graybeard is certainly in the running for whatever he is doing, or not doing. Let's be a little more supportive.

I really hate to spoil everything, but I didn't really expect a Nobel, or for that matter, any kind of prize of recognition. I could have hoped for a few less insulting remarks, but I guess any time you post the snipers are out there. Thanks for your more civil remarks.

Agree. It didn't sound like a particularly good idea to me in the first place, regardless of whether he was able to make it work. Contrary to his latest comment on this subject above, the OP seems to be the one pontificating, not Canon. This is his third or fourth thread on a not particularly important workaround, with a lot of bragging and patting himself on the back. I'm glad he was able to accomplish what he wanted to accomplish, but enough already. I only posted in this thread to let the OP know how silly this whole thing is getting.

Do you think I can get any more mileage (ie pontificating and bragging) out of this subject? I will stay up tonite and try to get some new angles on it.

It was a nice idea while it lasted. But Canon Tech Support gave a big ho-hum when I informed them of my discovery and my suggestion that they update their people NOT to pontificate about something being impossible when it quite obviously was possible. Ah, but who knows? Perhaps behind the scene he is being whipped with a wet noodle. But seriously, merging selected photos onto an SD devoted to use as input to a slide projector is simply too good an idea, and too simple a process, to dismiss out of hand.

What I don't understand is how you got to be an Old Coot without ever developing a sense of humor. I grew a Gray beard and laughed all the way.

The L lenses make a noticeable difference.

Unless I win the lottery, I will have to take your word for it.

If the goal of a new car is just to get you where you want to go, the Chevy is great. If you want to get there in comfort and style, then you want the Caddy. If the goal of your photography is just to take a picture, then the generic lens is great. If the goal is to take the best, sharpest and most colorful picture you can take, then you want the Canon lens.

If price is the issue, then buy the best you can afford.

Altho most of my lenses are Canon, I wouldn't say that they intrinsically take better pictures than my Tamron or Sigma. However, my lenses are primarily middle line stuff, I have no L lenses.

Everyone's heart has a secret nerve that responds to the touch of new camera equipment.

I am afraid the secret nerve I have is the negative "ouch" I get when I have to lift out too much cash from my wallet. You can buy 4 Chevy's for the price on 1 Cadillac. The Cadillac may be better in some (mostly cosmetic) ways, but is it 4 times better ???

I research carefully.

Tokina has been a moderate price manufacturer with occasional 'blasts' of genius. My Tokina 24-70 is sharper than my Nikkor 24-70. I have a D850 picture of Yosemite Valley with the Tokina at 70 mm. You can see the branches of trees growing on the top of mountains at the extreme right and left of the full frame field of view.

However, the Tokina is not as 'weatherproof' as the Nikkor. My Tokina lost AF and VR in the mist of Bridalveil Falls. It took about 1/2 day to dry out.

Don't praise or damn any brand of cameras or lenses. Each is made to fit a price range and 'need' of a consumer market. If you have a pre-conceived bias for/against, you will be missing out on some great tools because of your chosen foolishness.

Forgive the time lag in my response. I disagree about your statement re bias for/against. To me a piece of crappy equipment makes a statement about the mfr. In 1964 I bought a Panasonic transistor radio with an AC adapter. Within hours of its use, the AC adapter literally fell apart. I contacted Panasonic customer service and they told me to pound sand. So I have not bought anything made by Panasonic since. My own personal boycott. Over the years I have on several occasions been interested in some of their stuff (based on ads they ran) but always remembered my little AC adapter. It has cost them several sales.

It was a serious question, and, as you can see above, I did get a few serious answers. I knew it was a scam, but didn't know how it worked. Now I do. No thanks to you.

You mean the extended warranty I took out on my extended warranty is a scam? Hoodah thunkit ?

The USB sticks are cheaper than the SD cards. As far as clutter the camera is a real clutter when using it as a slide projector. But any way do what you want.

Ah but you forget, the dog in this race is the camera taking pictures, for which you DO need an SD card, which you can then use for the tail, displaying the pictures. The stinking USB sticks are of no help in getting the pictures taken, and are just useless clutter. Keep the planet clean, scrape off the superfluous junk.

Actually there are 5 original categories, Peace is just one. The other 4 are Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine and Literature. Those original 5 were established by his will. In 1968 Sweden’s central bank established the Prize in Economic Science in memory of Nobel. The Nobel Foundation awards it along with the others but it’s funded by the central bank.
But I still think he’s out of luck unless those that choose the winner of the literature award take a particular like to his post here.

I do turn a word well don't I ?? Physics maybe? Peace? Perhaps one could say that by causing a kerfuffle amidst the group, and everybody vents and gets hostility out of their system, that would qualify me a a peacemaker ??
