A fine choice, I know you will love the results.
Thank you MT Shooter for all of your valuable experience was one of the leading factors for me going in this direction! I didn't want to wait for the newer D7100 because of the possible increase in price. However, with new model new technology. I'm satisfied with the direction I took.
I purchased body and lens separately. Lens from B & H and body from Cameta. Cameta does not carry Sigma products. Cameta had the best deal out there on 12/3 for d7100. B & H had lens in stock the other on line locations were back ordered
Thanks for all the answered questions. I just placed an order for D7100 with Sigma 18-300mm.

This is a two question post in one site. Im trying to determine which lens to get when I purchase the D7100. I contacted Nikon at Nikon.com and asked them what the difference between these 2 lenses?
AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR
They told me the quality of plastic that goes into making the lens makes the 3.5-5.6G ED VR is more expensive. Is this true?
They also told me that there is no difference in the quality of picture. If this is true why is there 2 different models of the same 18-300mm lenses?
2nd question
When purchasing the D7100 is the quality of lens and pictures going to increase spending more money for the Nikon lens or would a Sigma or Tamron be better to buy? I want to buy the current lens the first time around and not having to up grade later. I will be using the camera/lens for travel and once in a while for wildlife. Im not a pro but demand high quality pictures from my self.
It looks like I will be purchasing a D7100 DX DSLR Camera which comes in a kit with
AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens
AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens
or
would I get higher quality photos with something like a Tamron 16-300 mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD and not the kit lens? I really want to limit the price of the lens above the cost of the body to $600 which limits my lens selections.
Camera use for recreation and wildlife when I'm in the mountains/desert or traveling.
I appreciate your advice

I appreciate all the above recommendations and I still check in several times per day investigating all the wealth of information and comments that I've received. I've narrowed my selection down to the N7100 and the 70D.

My lens correction is 18-55mm and I have had own this Rebel XS for 5 years. As for money question. I was looking to spend around $850-900 for body. I do not plan on going to Africa but I do live in Wa state both in the desert and mountains. We do a lot of traveling and need a great camera/lens. Can I upgrade to a higher quality lens for this Rebel XS camera or start all over. I hope this clarifies the above questions.
I know it's the photographers experience that makes the picture. However, I've been told it's the lens that is more important than the body (camera body). How true this statement is I'm not sure? Therefore, I have a Rebel XS with a esf18-35mm lens and a esf 55-250 mm. In order to take better quality landscape and wildlife photography would the experts out there give me your advise. Does purchasing a higher quality lens for my Rebel XS or a higher quality camera/ lens be the best step to take? I'm not the pro.
I've heard a lot about discussion regarding Canon 7d and Nikon for wildlife photography. But nothing regarding Pentax K-5 II. Does anyone have any experience or opinion regarding this camera. I've narrowed my selection to the Canon 7d or 7dII. I'm just getting back into photography after a decade out of water. It's like gold fever-photography is calling me back.

Thank you for your opinion. Any specific reasons
I would like to stay around the 2,200 or less for body or body with lens
