The same thing, just the other way around.

So take camera gear, bagged, outdoors and let acclimatize about an hour before taking any pics? I presume I should remove battery and memory cards beforehand?

I'm aware of the need to bag ones camera and acclimatize the camera when returning indoors from the cold outdoors, but what precautions should I take when taking my camera gear from a warm house to a very cold outdoors?

I think he meant "if you want to use a REMOTE shutter..." - with BBF, the focusing done by the shutter button is disabled. Usually. So the remote shooting aspect involves RE-configuring so that the shutter button action also focuses, since most remote control software does not have a "BFF" button.

That would make it understandable. Thanks. I was wondering about remote shutter with mirror up. I don't have a remote shutter release, but BBF seems to work with mirror up.

Is BBF exclusive to camera body only, or is the BBF setting 'burned' in to the lens on the body at the time of setting BBF on the camera? Ie does BBF need to be re programmed for each lens?

There are 3 drawbacks to using it.
1. yes, it takes some constant use to become second nature
2. If you want to use a remove shutter and have it autofocus, you'll
have to reconfigure it back to normal half press focus
3. Letting someone take a picture of you with your camera that is
programmed for BBF, can make it hard for them to use.

All of these are minute drawbacks and I still think BBF is the way to go.

Not sure what you mean in #2

Thanks, I will read that now.

Ok, just got a D800 so I'm working my way through the manual and menus. The D800 has on the back an AF-ON button and to the left of that button there is a button that is both AE-L and AF-L. When I press the AE-L/AF-L button, in my viewfinder only the AE-L appears. I guess I need to find out how to lock focus with the AF-ON button in order for BBF to work as intended.

If I BBF on something close, then reframe to something further away, the half press will refocus. Wouldn't the BBF need to lock focus in some way to prevent a half press refocus if moving the camera even slightly?

Not sure I get it. If you BBF, you still have to press shutter button to take the picture. As I won't do a rapid press of the shutter button so as not to cause shake, won't the camera attempt to refocus anyway while using the shutter button?

If we're going to compare screenshots, you must have a magical power I do not, as the Edit functions remove themselves after an hour of the post.

I edited my post and title in the classified section days later. I just looked at my post and I'm still able to edit the title as well as the body of the post.

Lastly, newer camera offer AF Fine Tuning so you can adjust the sharpness of the cameras AF system to the lens, sadly your D200 is too old to offer this feature, but on cameras that have it available, it is VERY helpful in acquiring accurate autofocus.
Good luck.

Does the Nikon D610 offer AF Fine Tuning?

Doesn't punishment fit the crime down there in the good ol' US of A? The bureaucrats to my knowledge haven't run anyone over in their golf carts chasing the scofflaw photogs., or torn off the limbs of the photog. whilst consficating their equipment. Get a grip. Jail time? Over react much? It's not like they're trying to pry your precious guns from your fingers. Oh wait, maybe if YOUR camera was being consficated you WOULD pull a piece on the bureaucrat?

Sorry to stereotype, but if it walks like a duck.....

Sounds like the powers that be are working on a solution, surely one that doesn't include jail time!

Now they need to impose severe penalties on those who violate the rights of anyone unlawfully harassed for recording in public places. By serious I mean hefty finishes and imprisonment.

Imprisonment? Seriously?
